@Eques3n It's hard to say how they got there but I can assure you they did not just appear there. So you're probably not noticing their dive trails or they are dropping some what near you and going straight for you.
If I see people drop late or hear them drop late. I go straight to them to eliminate them before they get guns/armor.
When you drop you want to drop as close 400M as possible. If you want launch exactly at 400M press your drop button when the distance hits about 430M. You will beat everyone to the ground almost every time if you do that and fly in a straight line to your ping. Don't fly around, don't dolphin up and down.. Just keep the cursor on the ping and follow it straight.
Longer distance drops sort of take some practice to figure out how to do right. But if you fly to the far side of the map let's say 800-1000M away you probably won't have enemy with you. If you do it will probably only be 1-2 squads tops.
Long distance drops have their own set of issues. Let's take Worlds Edge, if you fly to Sky Hook and it's 1000M away from the drop ship. Enemy team lands and let's say Count Down and ring is going to be in Sky Hook. They might rotate into sky hook, they will have a few seconds on the ground to loot and be moving into sky hook shortly after you land.
When it comes to WE, I would drop Skyhoook, Lava Fissure, Dome or Thermal Station. You'll likely have company at those locations but they are big enough that you can land away from other squads and loot up before you have to deal with anyone. They are also big enough that you can run. Dome and Lava Fissure rarely have other squads there, the one down side to them, if higher skill players have partial squads they tend to drop to slower locations. So there is the possibility you'll bump into someone who can melt your entire squad 1vs3.
Olympus has some slow areas you can drop at, but I can't remember their names at the moment.
