@DoYaSeeMe Apex netcode was written by a sloth is pretty accurate though! 😃
Is there something in this specifically cause it's an hour and i'm hungover when the suns actually out here. 🥳
When they created Apex it was a casual game and on release they didn't realise it was going to be such a success, which has been provided by you multiple times before. Now we have a large and growing e sports interest, 100million players after 2 years and a very large number of complaints about performance. Be it servers, matchmaking or netcode w/e.. I don't, imo, think it's unreasonable to ask them to change direction slightly to keep riding on that success and make those improvements being requested when before it wasn't a necessity, a priority or even on their radar for them at that point given the overall structure of the game and the way it's been made.
Given the conclusion from that last discussion you provided in my thread (i replied to you btw 😛) with him in avoiding the issues that battle(non)sense and others were asking then i think he also knows it's possible but from a business perspective they try to avoid it or even answer the question directly.
I don't doubt there's business, financial, technical or other challenges but it's possible for some improvements should they decide to go down that route.
- 5 years ago@apostolateofDOOM The video is not about excuses and it doesn't go very technical. It's more of a glimpse of how they see games, struggles, goals, etc.. You will also hear about a different face of EA and about their stance on solos.
I kept thinking about what Slothy tried to say with tickrate being about AI and not about player experience and I think I understand what their change is about. Battle(non)sense is more of a hardware / engineer kind of guy and I think he made the mistake of assuming that Respawn uses the typical Source engine. They actually say in the video above that they refactored the Source engine almost completely over the last 10 years.
The video also confirms what I keep saying about devs doing games because it's their passion, not for the profits. So, if they're not passionate about the E-sports scene, it doesn't really matter how profitable it is.
