Idea: dynamically adjusting ring sizes

Ok so take a look at the screenshot: Round 1 (I emphasize it again: Round ONE) is closed in 1 minute. So it hasn't even fully closed - yet there's only 2 squads left: our team and one other enemy team.

I don't know if that's the case in every pub game but at least higher tier pub lobbies die that fast all the time and it's honestly just annoying to run around in a circle that is still huge while 2 teams run around maybe hundreds of meters away from each other until they eventually finally find each other.

The worst is when the other team is some camper team that has probably spent the whole game looting and now they're going nothing but running away and you have to chase them for 5 minutes or more. The game needs dynamically adjusting zones/rings (whatever they're called you know what I mean). So say round one is ending and ring closure is about to start but only 5 squads are left: the announcer then announces that the ring will skip to stage 3 or 4 or so to prevent a handfull of teams running around in a huge a$$ circle.

The advantage is: since it's dynamic it only happens when it is needed. Still 15 Squads left? Ring closes normally. Only 5 squads left at the beginning of ring 1 closure? Dynamically adjust it to instantly close to ring 3 or 4 size. Seems like a win win to me.

  • I agree with this idea. It is pointless going through round 2-3 etc. when most of the squads died in the first minute. Sure, its still possible to meet another squad on round 2, but chances are, you'll end up wandering around with nothing to do besides looting until round 4 or 5.

And also, I hate when my teammates pointlessly stay in the same area for like 5-10 minutes. A dynamic ring will surely force them to move on.

Not sure what I am reading here.

Do you mean the ring shrinks to a much smaller size between rounds when there are fewer teams?

Won't that put the unlucky ones who are miles away from the next ring at a massive disadvantage?  What about those who scanned for the ring early and, due to team number drop, it suddenly closes much smaller?  Does that make sense?

I see a lot of problems with this.

Yes. When ring starts to close it is announced that instead of Ring 1 simply closing the ring directly closes to ring 3 or so.

uhh no? Make the ring close at a speed at which you can run from it. Easy. Also: with todays rings you can also already be super far away from the next ring. Not really that much difference.

"What about those who scanned for the ring early and, due to team number drop, it suddenly closes much smaller?"
When a beacon is scanned it could simply show you two different rings. The next ring that will come when ring closes normally and a smaller ring in a different color that indicates the ring in case the ring skips a round due to the Lobby dying to fast. Could be very easily implemented into the Map UI with a small color change to make the 2 rings distinguishable.

    There. Solved your problems.
