Legends Spotlight Ballistic

Ok Its Monday and not Friday but here we go:

I want to give my take on each legend every couple of weeks moving forward.

How they work for the solo Q player and how they work for a team.

This will just be my own thoughts on them and you are all free to comment, just be respectful and do not flame me to much.

This week I want to take a look at Ballistic, because I have been having some good discussions about him with @1ronKeys and others at https://answers.ea.com/t5/General-Discussion/Help-me-find-a-new-legend/m-p/13235176#M245156

As per ApexStatus listings, tied for last at a .1% pick rate, Win rate is ranked #24th at 63.5%.  That's is not at all so good.

Team play: Matched together with the likes of Conduit and one of the skirmisher legends or BH is a good play here.

Passive: Sling: This is a pretty good ability however it is not a team orientated ability and only helps out Ballistic. SMG's or the RE-45 is great to have as a sling weapon.

Tac: Whistler: I really do not know what to say about this, it is not a great ability and only provides a slight nagging affect on enemies .

Ult: Tempest: This is a super good Ult, and benefits Ballistic and the whole team, Faster re-loads, faster movement with weapon out and unlimited ammo during the ult is awesome. Using this for a good push can and will wreak opponents in CQC. Plus Ballistic having a gold weapon is superb. Again, great Sling weapons to have for the Ult are The RE-45, Alternator, R-99 or the CAR. Sniper weapons in the sling should be avoided, as well as marksman.

Weapons Loadout:

I know everyone has their fav's and that should be so.

Base loadout should be an SMG and an AR or possibly a marksman or sniper. However the Sling weapons should be as noted above.

Ballistic is the other Legend that has a 3 weapon loadout, which is great and allows for some versatility, however due to the nature of his abilities he should be used aggressively and as a pusher in CQC. Use that Ult as much as you can for him and the team.

Solo play,  if your teammates are down and out unless your on Hals level of play, Ballistics abilities are not so good by himself. He has no movement, no area affect/control abilities and no get out of jail stuff to help him out. He is all about CQC and making the team better at pushing fights.

However if you are not into playing the long game and getting wins, but rather getting in and getting kills fast as a solo Q'er Ballistic is not a bad choice.

Well there you have it my two cents.

Please leave constructive comments and or thoughts/advice on your take on BALLISTIC.

Happy Hunting.

  • @Asmodeus566i beg to differ on the "Whistler" if used upclose. the enemy it will take a 25 HP loss if it hits, if the enemy decides to shoot on you, he will also loose some additional HP, will overheat and isn't able to shoot back for a certain time frame .I am most certain, the enemy wont survive that attack.
    I won quite some Matches with Ballistic only bcs of the Whistler, not using the ULT nor the Sling at all.

    @r1ggedgame

    And that is why we discuss things.

    Agreed up close it is a good tool, if used at a distance not so good, I have been able to wait out the 8 sec timer while popping a bat in cover and the game state almost never changed and that is why I felt it was sub par.

    Thank you for adding to the conversation and rightly correcting me.

    @Asmodeus566yea, on a distance its just something to annoy the enemy, to keep them behind cover.
    Not that much to gain there.
    But in combination with some fast legends like Octance (if its a 1% Octane ofc ...) or Path , Ballistic is an ideal tool to take out a whole team in a jiffy.
    I love Ballistic, finally a Legend that i can identify with as a "boomer" ... same grey beard and dark sunglasses , with nearly 1.6K Kills my 5th most used Legend!

  • @Asmodeus566 I haven't used Ballistic a whole lot yet, but I have thoroughly enjoyed the few times I've used him when my buddies are on. His ult, with a coordinated team, is quite wonderful!

    For the sling, I typically run an AR/RE-45 combo, so I like to slap a G7 in the sling, so I have some extra range. I don't even need any attachments on the G7. That thing is brutal on its own, Lol
  • Great Post!

    Was excited to see I get a mention in it too!

    I've really been enjoying Ballistic since unlocking and using him this past week. Getting good consistent kills with him, a few wins too.

    Initially I avoided him because his abilities did not sound too exciting, though I liked the idea of having a third weapon - I considered it would be a 'clutch' weapon to switch to when you and an oppo are dancing reloading in CQC. This proved to become far from how I've used it.

    Ulting with Ballistic...

    I've found the best time to trigger that Ult is when you see your second teammate engage or about to engage in a push/battle. By this I mean when you know two teammates are about to be engaged in battle - be that you and another, or your two teammates.

    I trigger it similarly to when/how I would trigger Bloodhound's ult. It's the kind of "it's on" moment.

    Tactical...

    I'm not sure how badly this affects opponents as I'm not sure I've experienced it yet, however, it is quite cute and fun - and I actually have several kills with the bullet itself landing.

    Hits them for 20-25 damage I believe, and can be good to hit a fleeing enemy or poke a bit of damage in early drop battles.

    Because it locks on, it can be a good way for almost guaranteed hit, like as I said, on a fleeing or low health enemy can be really good - and works out well for those early drop low shields spam your weapon cqc fights.

    Weapons...

    My biggest advice currently would be to consider your sling weapon as your main or secondary weapon. As if you're going to ult to enter a fight you're likely going to be using it more.

    Sometimes I've played without touching my secondary weapon.

    Usually best to make this a CQC weapon, I've surprisingly enjoyed (and had more success with) the RE45 compared to the Alternator.

    So your preferred mid to close range weapon would be a good choice for your main. I'm currently going with the Hemlok. And keeping a CAR or 99 as my secondary for when my ult isn't active.

    Seeing as I've noticed you may not need to touch this weapon much, it could potentially be a shout to stack a sniper if you wish, as sometimes you will have a situation it could be handy. But also bear in mind, it can be harder to keep track of three weapons so you may accidentally switch to a sniper in a clutch moment. I have point blank scoped someone before, but definitely would not want this to happen.

    I've not been using him long, and I'm by no means a pro. But I've really been enjoying him and these are some initial things I have noticed.

    @dSKyNafinchin

    yeah the G-7 is decent I would use it as a secondary with Ballistic instead of the sling but we all have or preferences.

    @1ronKeys

    I thought you would get a kick out of the shout out.

    You have been playing him actively so I thought you would have some good intel. I haven't played him in a while.

    Great reply and addendum to my initial post. Lots of good insights.
