Low Poly Option?

I'm sure this is not how Respawn originally wants it, even their no-budget texture streaming doesn't go this low. However, this is pretty cool for those of us who want to push our potato PCs a little bit further for those extra 2-5 FPS.

I'm curious if anyone knows more about this or if there's a way to get graphics like this during gameplay?

  • You were able to do this wayyyy back, though this has been fixed.

Currently I'm not aware of any other way to achieve this.

  • here are some other examples:

  • @NitefireOPWhat potato you have? Graphic can be tweaked pretty low, but there is still cpu requirements that need good quad core to not drop frames. I had to upgrade just cos apex...

  • this is for my laptop. it's an hp envy 13 with an Intel Core i7-8565U, Nvidia mx250 10w GPU, and 8gb ram.
my able to secure a fairly consistent 33 fps using my current low settings as well as MSI overclocking; but something about these low res polys is just giving me so many thoughts/ideas on how much more fps i can achieve :P

  • sigh...if only we could somehow suppress some of the textures that apex forces us to use. it would be really hilarious to play a modern day BR game at ps1 graphics 😉

    Thanks XHelperZ 🙂

@NitefireOPFor the most part I agree with you. Low end PCs and laptops will always suffer, as games try to out perform each other on "eye candy". I currently play on Steam using an older PC running Linux OS. There is a "trade off" for low resolution 720p is going to make your distant targets almost impossible to see and most will go unnoticed. A player running at 1080p has 33% more resolution giving them the better clarity. I don't know if they can run this game at 4K but they will be able to see your nose hairs.

I wouldn't recommend using this or any 3D shooter on a streaming service. I tested for GeForce Now and told them, "Gentlemen, while the clarity and frames per second of your stream is rather awesome, input controls through mouse, keyboard, and joystick suffer greatly. This makes playing many action games on your service unplayable." I am not under any NDA with them, so I can legally tell you that one.

I would recommend a better GPU but that will not happen on a laptop. Instead I will say that if you can afford it "Steam Deck" is a new portable that has super resolution and costs less than buying a GPU. You can see a video (somewhere on YouTube) comparing the graphics of Steam Deck versus Switch and PlayStation. Unfortunately this requires you to only play games you own on Steam.

I found the comparison video link here.

@Xubunnytwo Appreciate your recommendations! I at least do have a desktop w/ 16gb ram and a gtx 960, so I can at least have a decent playable experience on-hand. these kinds of optimizations are just for my potato ultrabook w/ an entry lvl graphics card.

Course while I have an ultrabook and a desktop, I could imagine how others out there have a gt 1030 graphics card and are also trying to push their little unit to the limit and beyond :P
  • Just saw this collection of low poly models in twitter and I just have to post it in this thread. LOL.
