MM is Constantly Changing
I should've posted this earlier but this is about matchmaking in Apex and how it is constantly changing, using different variables to determine what type of lobbies you get into. I feel like Respawn...
Sorry if I gave you the impression that I don't think the MM is constantly evolving. I'm aware of the video, I see daily what these guys post and will hover over them for a bit to see if they might actually deliver something of interest. I just don't like the Apex "news" sources, basically. It's just my opinion, based on the way these sources usually operate. They have to produce something daily, and more often than not, it's simply trumped up drama or taking some tiny thing from a dev tweet and spinning an imaginative story around it about what "might be coming to Apex." It gets tiring and I generally just don't watch it anymore.
Sorry to post so long on this, I just wanted to explain myself and not have you feel that I was belittling the point of your thread, which is fine . If you google "apex dev tweet on matchmaker" you can find all kinds of things they've said about the MM going back years, often referring to the fact that the matchmaker does, in fact, evolve. I just prefer getting my information in a different way that Apex news youtube videos. I've gone off topic too far, let's go back to your actual discussion, which is interesting.
MM has gotten downright wacky this week.
I haven't solo q'd trios in like two weeks due to better opportunities for powering the BP (LTMs). I got a quick coaching session in this morning, and hoLEE! First two games I got the same duo of mediocre players like myself. We were deleted first encounter by masters triple stacks both times. I don't usually see these people at all in my solo q games. Third game, I got matched up with a wake and wrath badge bearing Pred duo. This never happens. We did OK, I was actually able to be of some use to my outsized team mates instead of being a liability, but we succumbed in a multi-team carnage at Containment.
In my solo q this season, I have almost without fail been expected to backpack two players worse than myself, or sometimes a team at about my skill. Typically I'll get 2-4 kills or so and go on to get wrecked mid to late game. I didn't have much time for the session so I left it off there. Strange times at the end of seasons. I'm not sure what threw me into the deep end today, but I'm looking forward to getting returned my to my proper ELO next season.
I just had a thought. In the last week, if I did a no-fill the next morning to pop out a challenge or just grab a treasure pack, I was several times the champion, I guess from having well over 1K damage and 8-10 kills in my last "match." I wonder if those gun run stats have now bumped me into the next pubs MM tier in trios. My three matches today felt so off from my usual solo queue experience. But I'm also used to the MMing seeming pretty terrible in the last few weeks of the season, too. So I dunno. This season is the first time in several seasons that I've solo queued in any significant quantity.
