Movement Guide

Hey guys, I thought I'd put together a little movement guide that can help players struggling in 1v2 fights.  We all know that movement in an engagement is key to victory and taking as little damage as possible.  I'm going to give you some scenarios and if you think, "Yeah that happens to me a lot" then this guide should help you.

Scenarios:

You're in a 1v1 fight and this guy appears to just hit you with every single shot.

You're disengaging from a fight to cover and getting knocked before you reach it even though the enemy is 50-100m away.

You can't hit the target you're fighting and they win even though they're missing a lot against you as well.

People keep dodging my Peacekeeper shots.  Like outright dodging your shots.

You lose tracking on people in CQC.

Dodging bullets like Neo!  You can do it with a few simple tips.

Never stand still, when looting, when scouting an area, when healing, etc.  This is a mistake that I see a lot of new players make, I quickly line up a ton of damage and usually a knock on a player before they have a chance to respond due to this games netcode.  Get in the habit of always spamming your strafe keys left and right, crouch spamming during a revive, etc.  I encourage looting after fights, but with a purpose, the purpose being armor, a better weapon and ammo (if needed).  To get armor to appear you need to scroll up and down quickly for the Gear section to appear, grab it and run, do not even bother reading everything else if you have people anywhere near you.  I call this the, "LOOT AND SCOOT"

One of the biggest mistakes a player makes in a 1v1 is strafing in one direction.  I see it all the time, these are the guys that I do not miss my shots against, in a 1v1 on relatively open ground strafing in one direction is the worst thing you can do because it allows for your opponent to easily track you.  People always favor strafing in one direction, whether it be the right or the left.  If you are going to strafe in one direction use the following tips:

When strafing right with your D key, tap the A key for strafe left, this will stop your momentum to the right momentarily enough to throw off your opponents tracking, couple that with pressing crouch to duck shots as well as make your speed in that direction unpredictable. You can also simply just stop pressing the strafe key for a moment as well.

In long range engagements spam your crouch, strafe left, and strafe right key, it will make sniping against you extremely difficult, while make tracking weapons like the R99, Spitfire, and R301 ineffective.

In engagements against Peacekeepers, jump or crouch over shots or time your peeks during the delay between shots.  I make it a point to dodge peacekeeper shots in 1v1 by utilizing cover effectively and/or movement.  People are spamming their LMB after every shot of the peacekeeper, use line of sight (LOS) by ducking behind a wall right before the shot goes off to force them to hit air, giving you 1.5 seconds get distance, unload damage into them or reloading/switching weapons.

Push every engagement with a backup  plan to escape, whether it be ducking into a building and rounding a corner and running long enough that your opponents lose tracking on you.

Peekers Advantage:

This one is huge, the aggressor ALWAYS has a huge advantage in fights.  If you're sitting around a corner I can push you and unload several rounds in you before you have a chance to react due to the netcode.  If you're at 1HP and you have no way to escape from this fight, you're better off pushing into them around a corner before they have a chance to react.

Close Quarters Combat - CQC - Jump....  A LOT!  Jumping is huge in CQC because the height advantage allows you to get headshots on every gun significantly easier while your opponents struggle to get body shots and makes them easily lose tracking of you while you unload into them.

The beautify of mastering these techniques will make you win fights you would otherwise lose, sometimes even at full HP and also give you more opportunities to make up for a lack of aim, some people struggle with aim but still do extremely well by having phenomenal movement in engagements that force opponents to overextend into a shotgun blast or your teammates fire.  Even the best players in the world cannot win 1v3's with just their godlike aim alone, their movement is super critical.

Here is a clip of where I take advantage of a lot of the techniques discussed above while using doors and LOS to my advantage to win a 1v3.

Thanks for sharing those tips, @Megatf_TwitchTV!

There's always the classic one when you're getting sniped at too, Zig-zag so your movements are unpredictable. 😃

I've actually been bamboozled a few times by players running straight at me but slid at the last second. Your aim could completely miss them when it's performed right.
