I don't play ranked much - I get to Gold and then go back to pubs - but I hate grinding out of Bronze. Took me four hours yesterday to get from my demoted rank of Bronze III (from Gold IV) to Silver IV. I'd say about one in three of my TMs actually knew how to play the game. Took me three games to get the final 17 points thanks to terrible TMs. In the end I got lucky with a hot-drop and got two elims within a minute using a Sentinel as a shotgun. My TMs were both knocked and I was when battling the final squaddie with an Alternator.Demotion should never been greater than a single tier. Your reward for at least reaching Gold is never having to experience the tediousness of Bronze again.

@EdwardDLuffy I don't know, I don't think the game should have tier demotion protection to begin with. There are far to many people in Gold and Platinum who do not belong there. It leads to a horrible experience for those who need a third to play ranked or solo queue into ranked. The higher up you go in ranked, the hard it is to compensate for bad teammates because the skill gap between you and your enemies becomes minimal. Most fights start to come down to the wire in terms of who wins it.If they want to keep tier demotion protection then they need to reduce the placement points RP substantially so people who camp and run from conflict don't make beyond Silver or so and definitely don't make it up into Platinum.

@DarthValtrex That being said, let's think about this here. Let's say you want to go somewhere quiet. Hydro, perhaps, as it's across the map and nobody's going there. Your teammates choose to ignore you and go straight for the supply ship. They die. You're still alive. You can't grab their banners, as I assume you're playing a legend other than Crypto, so whaddya do? Camp. I dislike camping as much as you but sometimes it's the only option when your teammates throw the game.

Both playstyles are valid. The main problem is people that don't play as a team.

There's no way for the game to detect whether the players have made smart or stupid decisions. There are a lot of situations when it's best to avoid conflict and a lot of others when pushing with all guns blazing is the most efficient thing to do.
Also, without demotion, there would be much more smurfing going on, bronze and silver would be hell. On the other hand, a harsh demotion could make low tiers pretty sweaty.

@EdwardDLuffy A even bigger problem is I hit masters last season first split, didn’t play second split so I was back in silver for this season. I was ruining the game for these silver level players, I had multiple 20 bombs. Once you hit masters I feel you shouldn’t drop below platinum

@DarthValtrex 9/10 times it's the other way around for me, I'm in plat now and these players should be in Diamond or Master instead of Plat and plays like a lunatic.

If they reduce the RP substantially, it defeats the purpose of legends like wattson and caustic, or rampart. Me and my friends also camp in certain situations because there's no point fighting masters & preds in a Plat lobby. You'll get wrecked that quick and lose RP.

I'd rather to see respawn implement that preds and masters don't get a rank reset below diamond or even below master, because the skill gap between diamonds and masters is way too big, let alone predators. And if they don't play ranked for a whole season, then it resets to bronze IV in the next season.

Or at least have 5 or 10 rank placement matches at the beginning of the season/split.

@DoYaSeeMe Smurfing is a huge problem anyway and it wouldn't be much more negative than them intentionally staying in lower ranks as they do currently or getting to bronze the following season. Also a diamond+ will blitz through bronze and silver ranks in less than a day pretty easily.
I never used to agree with demotion but now i think you'll slowly and consistently climb regardless and with the way they now have this rank protection so you don't get stuck in a rank you're either forced to improve or can't compete at ie D3 being the old D4 then i think we should have it.
@bosourd Masters and preds are exactly the same as they're playing in the same lobbies gaining RP from D3+. It's based on time played more than anything else at that point. Also the skill of one player in diamond isn't THAT much different from a pred mechanically or individually, it's game sense and how well they coordinate with a team to climb higher.

@DarthValtrex Perhaps I have an unusual way of thinking but wouldn't allowing tier demotion increase camping? If I'm Plat 4 and I really don't want to drop down to gold I won't take any risks. I'll hug the sides of the map until I place decently just to avoid tier demotion.
I don't particularly care about rank so I'll dive any fight that I see but I'd camp more if I cared about ranking down.
I'm more in favor of rewarding talented players and boosting them up quickly. Separate the skilled from the weak.
