"To anyone who thinks higher skilled/competent players shouldn’t get rewarded more: please stay away from multiplayer games."
Sorry, but in a casual, free-to-play game people should get rewarded for playing regardless of their abilities. If you want a reward that's tied to your performance then play ranked, and even there I would say that your rank in and of itself is your reward. Honestly, who cares about skins and badges and dive trails and holosprays anyway? It's like getting a gold star on a second grade homework assignment. To me anyway.
@reconzeroI’m totally fine with all players getting rewards. But the players exhibiting a higher competence in any activity should get greater rewards. People who dislike skill/competence hierarchies typically hate this idea.
Normally I would say that an acceptable greater reward would be more wins, but if we have a MM system that consistently pits players in situations that equalize wins and loses, then that point is moot.
Gold-level players playing in a lobby of equally skilled gold-level players is not the same as Master/Pred-level players playing in a lobby of equally skilled players— the latter is FAR more stressful because the match is far less forgiving; one mistake equals death.
So yes, these players deserve slightly more for the level of skill they are demonstrating, even in pubs.
The idea that “all players should win at the same rates and all players should get the same rewards, regardless of skill” is kind of ridiculous in my mind.
- reconzero4 years agoSeasoned Ace@Axs5626Sxa5001 Okay, I can get behind this in principle. But in practice the game does not equalize wins, and I think it's a misinterpretation of SBMM that leads people to believe it does that. There are plenty of master/pred players with ecessively high win rates, and honestly there scrubs with the same - I was one of them until this season. I'm sure the devs have spent countless hours trying to figure out what is the win rate that is psychologically satisfying to the average player. Problem one: for many it would be far too high to be compatible with a twenty squad multi-team game. Problem two: many players will tell you that it isn't about the quantity of wins - it's about the quality of losses. In other words, they'll tell you they don't even mind losing as long as it isn't because of scrub teammates or cheating enemies. But in a game this complex, with so many people solo queueing, it will always be one or both of those things. Always.

I agree that the matchmaking doesn’t perfectly equalize wins, but the current outcomes are closer to equalization than it would be if matchmaking were completely random. The fact lobbies are being curated mean we’re going to have players who are vastly more skilled than the majority of players yet still lose and get killed more than low-skilled players— because these curated lobbies are pitting these players against the top people in that skill bracket.
Even though this frustrates me, I have accepted that it’s probably healthier for EA/Respawn’s income because this structure keeps players around and spending money, so ultimately it is healthier for the game. So I genuinely think this needs to be offset by more valuable rewards for those players sweating at a high degree of skill.
Obviously my position is biased— I’m a low-level Masters player who has exclusively become fodder for other Masters and Preds. I have had pubs that were so damn hard and stressful that the win wasn’t even worth the effort put in, lmao— this feeling sounds funny and ridiculous but it’s actually pretty horrible. I’m not asking for these ALGS-level pubs to be removed, but the compensation definitely needs to be adjusted. - hayhor4 years agoHero@Axs5626Sxa5001 I finally won 2 games no filling trios the other day! It took 4 months hahaha

- 4 years ago@Axs5626Sxa5001 That's just it, isn't it? I mean you have some peeps claiming this or that on here, but realistically they are average at best.
Most or many, actually do not even play regularly.
For me, the cancer of sbmm is the fact that you can not progress when it hits you.
I've spent, probably more time than some players on here, 100's of hours, just practicing accuracy with the R99 with no attachments in the firing range. I do not see that commitment anywhere tbh, and I do expect it to pay off, yet it's counter productive, bc it just doesn't. As soon as I get into 70% of games they all have similar or better aim/accuracy, so what is the point? I just gave myself the hard mode. It's all the same then...so it might be more enjoyable to just do nothing in the end and play, no practice needed..? I dunno.
I've stated in a previous post that I have recently done 24 binges on Apex, well yeah, but in those 24 hours I maybe got like 2-3 wins. And that is just ridiculous for players like me or yourself or others that have put so much time into things.
Bad players will retaliate with "yeah, you have a 5% chance of winning", but that is BS. You have no idea who is in your lobby at said time, so, your win % could be anything from 10-80% to win certain matches. Question is, what's the point of playing then when you get the feeling that odds are clearly stacked against you most of the time? I'm all for a challenge, but make it fair. - 4 years ago
In Apex Legends you win only when game decides that you must win. Say thanks to terrible matchmaking system.
If usually i won in 8-10% if games, then in this season number is twice lower. Pubs are completely unplayable.

@hayhorof course you would say this, though true, to some extent, big maybe depending. But playing "cowardly" is not an option really. We play. That's it. Anyone could win by camping like a loser all the time until final ring with the right weapons/armor.
Now you can go and collect your paycheck from ea, hayhor.
do we play the same game even? Is this what you consider playing a good game normally? You earned nothing. Caustic vibes makes sense now.
oh, and now you can run and report me too.....
- hayhor4 years agoHero@Sand_spitter I can't help it my experience is different than yours. Not sure why you cannot understand that. I have data that backs up my win rates relation playstyle. Yes, lobbies make a difference too but blaming 1 3 stack of masters and preds in the lobby isn't correct either. Dropping hot over and over will result in a lower win rate than others who take fights smarter.
