@HappyHourSumwur wrote:it isn't about the frequency of wins for me, but about the quality of losses. I get melted in milliseconds by the first enemy/squad I see way to often. Honestly, that is 80% of the time for me.
I've had fun games where we ended up in 8th or 12th (get 2or 3 kills and actually survive a gunfight or 2) and horrible games where we came in 3rd (run around looting for 10 minutes and die to a 3 stack with red shields in milliseconds). I'm OK with dying if you feel like you had a chance or because you know you did something dumb but I absolutely hate dying repeatedly when you feel like you had absolutely no chance. That's Apex for me, a Gold level trash can.
Darn that’s a great statement that I agree 100%. I don’t mind losing to a well matched enemy but my friends and I being melted even with purple shields isn’t fun.
On the topic of SBMM again. Honestly, I think the game doesn’t look into your level, rank, or even KDR. It’s purely just based from your recent games played.

@Cheese9ManI can assure you that this doesn’t apply to all accounts. I can lose multiple games in a row with zero damage and zero kills and still get consistently dropped in lobbies that are all Diamond and up.
This isn’t the case on my other accounts (these accounts are created to specifically test matchmaking).
Perhaps this is a product of games played. As of this writing, I currently have exactly 29,536 games played on my main account. This is the account I play ranked on and its the account that I try my absolute hardest on to win. It’s also the account that is literally hardstuck playing diamonds, masters and preds in pubs. I would probably win a bunch more if the algorithm dropped me down in lobbies with average skilled players but that simply isn’t happening.
But on my other accounts it is EXACTLY as you say, influenced heavily by recency. It seems the algorithm is putting a hard emphasis on making the game forgiving for newer players.Look it sucks being above average and not being able to win, but I’ve come to accept that it’s probably better for the health of the game. What I need is some kind of reward for being in this situation. I’m willing to lose all my matches to Masters and Preds for the betterment of the community, but basic human psychology (and I am a clinical psychologist) suggests that motivation is maximized by POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT and reward. It sort of drives me crazy that some people actually believe rewards and outcomes should be equalized to ensure happiness and enjoyment are evenly spread amongst the skill levels.
- 4 years ago@Axs5626Sxa5001 I believe in your findings and your dedication to crack the code of SBMM. As there aren’t many players here in your level, what does reddit say about this with players with a similar skill level? I’m sorry if I missed your suggestion on what SBMM should be in your past posts but what do you suggest? Do you suggest being placed in maybe plat-diamond players?
My game session with my friends today were awful being placed with three stacking masters and preds. Didn’t win a single trios game and only won in flashpoint.
Clinical psych was my real plan B if I didn’t pursue medicine (undergrad degree in Psychology).- 4 years ago@Cheese9Man I, like most people who are taking a non-kneejerk reaction to SBMM, don’t have an exact answer.
At first I thought pubs should be random but its clear that this scenario would turn off a lot of new players. So we do need a degree of SBMM. Does that mean that everyone should always magically play their doppelgänger? No, but again I admit that this scenario is still likely healthier for the game.
So, my newer and more current stance is:
Players forced to compete in high MMR lobbies need to be compensated. This can come in the form of double exp (which means the level cap needs to be dramatically increased), crafting materials, or special skins.
I know people will fight me on this, but I’m pretty sure this is as far as I am willing to budge on an activity that’s PVP. Competence and skill have to afford rewards that warrant people reaching a high competence/skill. The journey has to be worth it.
