@drewblueeye333 @This has been something that piqued my interest in the past I did some digging into it and the results honestly shock me.
Im going to divide my 10¢ into three groups:
Illicit Inputs
This class of cheating applies primarily to PlayStation and Xbox. What happens here can be divided into two sets.
MKB adaptors: There’s a reason MKB isn’t supported on consoles. This input device has large advantages, compared to controller, which are amplified on lower frame rates. These adaptors are used in violation of liscensing of the game to allow users to generate more inputs than could be done with a controller. The extra dexterity is a huge advantage.
StrikePack/Input Mods: These devices utilize pay-to-use software add-ons or cable splices to turn a legitimate controller into an automated system. This is the primary source of people who have unrealistically high accuracy and impossible fire rates and movement speeds. These controller mods alter signals to compensate for recoil automatically, tune movement, and enable full-auto semi-auto fire (hence why fire rates for such were capped recently and anvil receiver was removed)
Modifications
This issue is most prevalent on PC, but contrary to popular belief does also exist on consoles. It’s not much of a surprise that a free game with a large player base will be broken by someone. Modified clients allow all sorts of ‘fun’ changes, like enhanced mini-maps or aimbots. On PC, getting caught will simply result in a new account, but on consoles, ANTI-CHEAT is kind of reliant on the device itself, which if jail-broken becomes quite potent.
External Fiddling
The above class is very similar to this, the biggest difference is that this doesn’t deal with the game itself directly. If one copies the signal decryption methods of the game, all that data such as player locations can be fed into other programs. Then, these programs can generate things like mini-maps that display nearby players, or an alternate view-pane with wall-hacks, without directly affecting the game.
Each of these categories is counter-able to some degree, however there can never be a catch-all prevention method based solely off code. There are too many things beyond the reach of the game, such as routing details and hardware function calls, that simply cannot be monitored. The best solution is for human intervention. Our rational minds can identify dissimilar events very easily, and that can be employed to report illegitimate play.
