Ranked Arenas needs a big change

In seven successive games last night of Ranked Arenas there were less than six players. In one it was actually 3 (us) v 1 (him/her - I tried to make friends with them by doing a bouncy strafe but they still fired at me).

It's pointless. If you lose in the 'man down' squad you lose 0. When you win in the full squad you get about 6 points. It's just a waste of time.

Just kick the squads back to the lobby if there are less than six players at the start of the match. It's not hard.

There should also be lost forgiveness if you have an AFK TM. It should kick in by various degrees if the TM is downed by the ring or an enemy without having moved from their starting position, each round. I had one last night - a BH selected weapons each round but then never moved. Thankfully me and Loba won the game in three rounds, but BH got as many points as us!

@OldTreeCreeper So why do other games manage it? A game in Paladins NEVER starts unless all ten players are present and accounted for, for example.
  • @EdwardDLuffy Still haven't touched ranked arenas. Still reading through threads like this on how people are enjoying/hating on it. I guess if a lot of people are enjoying then I'll go play but from the looks of it, they need to tweak some stuff. I also don't see the rewards as being worth it.

@EdwardDLuffy having read a lot of what @DoYaSeeMe has posted, it's all a very complex issue. I'm guessing 6 times as complex as Paladins (not familier with the game). Perhaps not so with arenas, but still based on the same apex game software.

@OldTreeCreeper They've made it 'complex'. With Paladins (and many other BR/BA games) all players have to indicate that they are 'ready' once their legend/hero has been selected. They have 30 seconds to do this. If all ten players do not click the 'ready' button, then the game does not start.

Would not take much for Respawn to add the same, if only for ranked arenas.

I was the 1 v 3 last night. I did not last long.

@pandareno1999 I think you can leave as soon as you want. I use it for a bit of 1 v 3 practise, as long as it's a map I like (so, no Oasis).

Had one yesterday where the enemy BH just kept popping out of the phase runner and standing there.

Most other games have different server models. Some use dedicated servers and do the matchmaking on the same machine, therefore not requiring a new connection for the match. Apex is using a hybrid cloud tech, which mixes dedicated servers with clouds, a pretty modern solution that has a lot of benefits but which does not bring the best possible experience for the players. It would be very complicated to switch to a different model at this point and probably not worth it, as there could be serious disadvantages being brought to Apex by other solutions (e.g. the ability to scale seamlessly to millions of players, the resilience offered by the clouds, the costs,etc.).

Haven't played ranked arenas, but I agree that there are way too many missing / disconnecting teammates in casual. I think Respawn needs to make something like a pre-match skirmish until everyone is connected or disconnect the players after 2 minutes, if they're still not enough or not even (3v3, 2v2, maybe even 1v1). The biggest issue with this would be the increase in server usage (for example, if the average match duration is 10 minutes,  adding a 2 minute skirmish would mean a 20% increase). This could mean significantly higher costs.
