Re: Can I play apex without Xbox live gold?

@Hurkypandora128 Not even gonna read your post cause it’s likely just explanation, but no, you can’t. Every online experience game on Xbox requires gold as opposed to Playstation where free mp games don’t require Playstation plus (or whatever their service is called)

Can confirm Apex and Fortnite and stuff are free on PS4.

I think that whole "console internet" is a bloody scam, and should be against the law. You're literally being charged to use internet you already paid for.

@Wingmannedbro I have to agree, its very odd and I can't quite grasp what service I'm paying microsoft for?! As I already paid for the xbox?!

PSN or Xbox live access. A completely arbitrary toll they force people to pay just because they can.

@OldTreeCreeper the service to be able to use their platform to play exclusive games 😃 I joke

I miss the days PS was free to play all around ☹️ than they jumped on the xbox wagon and began charging us for online use 😢

@OldTreeCreeper I can totally grasp it tho. Look to the past for examples. Playstation was free to play online... their connection/servers sucked as I’ve heard. Microsoft always had paying for online. Consistently good servers since the inception of online play :D.

I like to believe that then and now you pay for upkeep of servers.

@OldTreeCreeper Definitely, but I like to think positive when technology is involved. And look at it this was...

MS has never been struggling with Xbox even tho they lost tons of money due to the platform. The paying for Xbox Live Gold helped with bouncing. On the other hand, Pre current gen Sony was hemorrhaging money and only relied on hardware/digital content sales, which still weren’t enough, despite playstation being the main reason sony is still making money as described by reports.

@WingmannedbroBy two different companies? lol I could understand if it was all the same company.

How hard is it for 2 tech giants to have 2 representatives talk and make an arrangement.

You never considered it odd both platforms have the exact same way of ripping off customers?

The even have those couple of games on rotation every month as a front so the cost seems justified when it's really just charging people extra for the internet they already paid for.

So... they offer a service... and its just supposed to be free? Thats not how anything in the world works... it pays for servers, moderators to keep xbox clean etc etc... also helps keep out the trash, because as a lot of you complain on a F2P game, people cheat, act rude get banned start another account. Less likely to act like that if your paying for something eh?

Its 5 bucks a month move along find something else trivial to gripe about 🙄

  • @Jem450R I think you are missing the point.

Buy a pc play for free.

Buy an xbox pay pay pay (for what extra service?)

and buy controllers that don't last too long either!

Its not a gripe its a statement of fact.

Parity is all that is sought here.

  • @Jem450R ... When was the last time you saw MS/PS take action on cheaters from other games? I think it's the game itself that does that and they don't charge for us to play online, its the platform you play on that does that.

Personally I guess it's slightly OK. I mean because of it, they are able to price their console around 300-400 because they make the money back later through subscriptions.

As for buying a PC, PC does not have that casual feeling to it, so many wires are involved when putting a whole set up together, you got a keyboard, a mouse, monitor, cables to connect everything back to the tower, all that and if you want to go over a friends house to do some LAN parties, you can't bring your whole set up, it's just not convenient for anyone.

I enjoy the free control of bringing my PS4 or XBOX from one room to another or to peoples houses for game night.

Part of the fee i suppose is the fact they've developed an online world for console thats  free of hacks... and is generally a pretty pleasant environment... not something you can say about a pc...

  • @Jem450R thats a broad brush of a statement, could you explain further exactly what you mean free of hacks? I have Norton on my old pc and it's free of hacks.

Xbox isos has been hacked in the past with users details taken, also individual accounts can be hacked if users are not careful. You can browse the internet on the xbox so imo it is vulnerable to attack there too and sadly i cannot put Norton onto it to protect it! (not that i use it for browsing)

  • @Jem450R You gotta see it this way:

If something has a chip, it can be hacked. Simple as that.

Even your chocolate chip cookie can be hacked! :P

As i said before, online pc is full of griefers and hackers... xbox not so much...

@Koochi-Q sure it can be... but its not much of a problem on xbox... i never really see aimbotters or feel im being cheated. Live also uses a rep system to pair good people with good people and vice versa...

And the best chocolate chip cookies are the ones without the chips! My sis makes me a batch when she does cookies without the chips and i LOVE them!

@Jem450R so safe to say your statements are opinion/feeling based rather than evidence based?

Do you work for microsoft? 😃 just asking...

Yeah its evidence based in my 12+ years of xbox live and being a live ambassador... so... yeah pretty good evidence! And as said before its 5 bucks a month(cheaper when find good deals), and the people complaining spend 20 bucks on a virtual wardrobe item...

  • @Jem450R I wasn’t disagreeing with you, just stating a neutral point in my famed comical way. Playing xbox for 11 years here so I know what I’m talking about. There are hacks online, but from what I could tell, they’re usually met with swift justice :P

Consoles are probably not much harder to hack, but hackers likely get less out of it. At least Xbox’ infrastructure is more robust than Playstation’s which seems to get hacked quarterly XD.

I’m not really a chcocolate (chip) cookie fan... but that’s cheating! Thats just a chocolate cookie so non-hackable!

Well I think your use of language speaks for itself, a quick synopses:

Move along if you dont agree with me!

Xbox is free of hacks and a pleasant environment, pc is not!

You ignore the fact that xbox iso's have been hacked!!

You generalise as I don't spend $20 on virtual wardrobe.

And Im not sure you could see what I wrote as a complaint.

    I could go on.

You are doing a fine job as a salesman (oops sorry, a live ambassador) pushing the company line.

The fact you believe the online environments are anywhere near similar to each other proves you just want to argue. So im done with that, have a good day and keep believing pc and xbox live are the same...
