Re: Control is trash

@BIamBoozIe I agree, especially with point 6. In Control and ranked arena everyone is basically a god, they hit every shot and they come out of hiding guns blazing, they don't even need to look at you and put the crosshair on you. Meanwhile in br, it's a whole different story, people mostly play normally there.

@Tad844 With your skill level do you even see bad players? I'd assume the sbmm combined with only needing 18 players means you get sweaty lobbies.
  • @hayhor BR is fun, it has a mix of sweats and noobs. Arena ranked and control however, i just get 1 magged, people start shooting the wall where i'm at even before i'm gonna peak. So I usually stay away from those 2 modes. I hated control since the start. It's just unfun.

@Tad844 100% agreed. Can't understand why everyone wants an arena shooter game type in a battle royale game. Aren't there already fifty million "good" arena shooters out there? Whatever.
  • @reconzero Are you kidding?  Aren't there already 50 million BATTLE ROYALES out there already?  And growing in number? PUBG, Fortnite, Call of Duty whateveritisnow....

Seriously, you may not like it but clearly you aren't like some massive majority here.  People even like Arena, despite all the screaming about it.

You don't need to seek agreement, Control is fine, you don't like it, we get it.

But next time I want people to talk about Control, or anything else, I will remember to post XXXXX is Trash.  Because, hot dangy that's the way to get people to reply!  We don't want no thoughtful conversation about it NO! We want TROLL FLAME ON! :D

@KelRiever Other than a vaguely dismissive "whatever," I would not have thought anyone could characterize that post as trolling, but clearly I was wrong.

And yes, there was a legitimate question in there. I've spent twenty years playing arena shooters and it took the advent of battle royale (pubg, then apex) to show me that there is a way forward for an otherwise stale game type. That's just my perspective, and I know other people see things differently - which is why I sometimes try to fish an answer out of them by saying things like, "I can't understand why...." Etc

I know what Apex brings to the table for battle royale, but I'm genuinely curious to know what they bring to arena shooters that didn't already existed in literally dozens of different franchises. Weapon continuity is the only thing I can come up with, but I know it has to be more than that. Really not trolling, I just don't understand what all the fuss is about.
  • @reconzero @I know you aren’t trolling and I’m not being so heavy. But Apex I think is unique enough that their own version of a new mode is worth trying out. I totally get it isn’t for everyone, either but I think it is great. And I wouldn’t want them to ever eliminate BR

  • @reconzero An off topic question here. Why do you think Halo (and Split Gate) is doing poorly right now? Is the era of arena shooters just over? People were saying “If only Halo had a BR mode.” Genuinely curious because like what I’ve said in other threads, xbox is just non existent in Japan/Asia. Master Chief is just the xbox mascot for us and it always has been Nintendo vs Sega or Nintendo vs Sony (PC gaming is getting is bigger than ever though in JP).

@Cheese9Man Having played Halo since the beginning, I can say that the only lure there anymore is forge mode. I wouldn't even go back for a Halo battle royale at this point. That said, I'm told the reason it's doing poorly is the same set of reasons it did poorly last time around: too little too late. I myself downloaded on day one, played one match that I didn't enjoy, and then said, "Well, if I can't forge anything until 2023 then there's really no reason for me to be here." When I changed my mind a week later, I launched the game and it crashed my console (just as one of the MCC updates had done). Sorry, 343. Build a game that doesn't brick the console it was made for.

I can only tell with certainty that the age of arena shooters is over for me personally. But if you really want to know where the future is going to take the industry and the audience as a whole, I've always grudgingly said, "Look to Call of Duty." That's the game that sets the course. I'm told their BR mode is terrible, but if I know anything about CoD it's that they'll just keep doing it until they get right. And then wrong again, and then half-right. Etc. Can I picture a day when CoD no longer has team deathmatch? Nope. I can picture a future without any Halo at all, but not without TDM.
  • @reconzero Thanks for answering and explaining thoroughly. Western gaming culture, more specifically the xbox culture, is something that interests me since no one had here.
