Re: Geforce now

This streaming seems different from PS now on PS4 and Xbox xCloud (Which is coming to PC in 2021)

Am I right in thinking it only lets you stream the games you actually own in your steam or other digital store account? So your steam account connects to the virtual machine.

It does give impression on website you can play ALL those games for just a £5 too good to be true!

I got a bit excited seeing all those juicy Ubisoft titles!

Guess I'll sign up for the free 1 hour session limit account to test first.

@PeterN_UK You need to own the games and you need to have accounts for certain games, it's a bit messy to set up and as for the trials they had me on a 10 minute queue so just paid the fiver.

@PeterN_UK Also if trying go into graphics put it to custom with 1080p and vsync on, the competitive setting is only 720p and bad looking but very responsive.

    Mate this is incredible.

Wow so easy to setup account and connected to my steam account.

Steam Profile and Game Details on Steam had to be set public to allow sync to happen. Sync failed a few times but kept clicking and it worked.

There is a 5 min wait time, seemed longer on last min so it is just estimate. So yea have to pay £5 monthly for immediate it seems.

Loaded up Hitman Absolution as an old Steam title I owned. Asked me to login FML won't let me copy my password from lastpass to virtual machine, so had to type in massive 25 character password manually.

Took 5 secs to install the game then launched. Put it on 1920x1200 which is my native monitor res with ULTRA settings.

It looks amazing! Hell latency is hardly noticeable.

The GeForce app uses like only 4% CPU

@PeterN_UK Yeah it's awesome, my pc is extremely noisy and runs at over 90% in both cpu and gpu for steady 60fps and lowish settings, this thing you can't even hear it and runs way better than local, not even had a stutter in 10+ games of apex but am Hardwired with high speeds.

Just played few games of Apex with a Rank 1 account. The difference is certainly night and day compared to consoles.

You know this got me thinking whether I should just cancel my PS5 preorder altogether. Then there is the thought of putting up with PC cheating. Still divided now....

@PeterN_UK I'm in the same boat and wondering whether to get battlepass on Xbox or just play on that service, graphics are so sharp and do eventually want to upgrade my own PC.

I actually prefer the way the average player goes about things compared to console, it's way more tactical or something but obviously there will be cheats.

    Pros
    - You still own the games from Uplay, Steam, Origin and EGS
    - PC digital stores are cheaper than Xbox and PS Console Store

     C0ns
    - Latency. Competitive disadvantage, even if small disadvantage the fact remains it is there.
    - Goodbye to your friends on PS and Xbox unless you're playing a cross platform online game or willing to buy same game on more than one platform
    - Not all steam games will work with GeForce Now. i.e. ALL Total War series is missing from my library sync WTF. Basically you have to make sure by searching in GeForce Now App first to check licenced before actually purchasing in Steam.

Now imagine you bought a game on Steam specifically to play on GeForce Now. But then later they pull licence plug!

Some interesting reading on "Why" on the legal even if technically you own the game, but someone else is still distributing it to you. In a sense Nvidia is making money by being middle man and need approval from every developer. Developers who can then turn around later to halt on GeForce Now when you've already purchased the game to own on steam.

Kind of puts me off GeForce Now if my Steam games could be pulled without warning should Devs decide to change their mind!

@PeterN_UK I'm aware of the pitfalls and wouldn't buy anything without another way to play but am hopeful APEX wouldn't be pulled, all in loving the graphics man my Xbox looks a pixelated mess in comparison.

Actually I've decided. I was playing as a rank 1 account and it was "OK" as the lobby was full of people less than rank 10 consistently.

Joined few PC lobbies with 2 other members of this forum and it was the worst nightmare of my life against higher ranked PC players.

So sticking to console as I don't have the muscle memory for mouse. Probably would take me months if I tried.
