Re: Is changing the graphics to such extent bannable?

Normally I would say no, however since it's completely removing foliage, you are able to spot enemies through trees which normally would obscure vision ,thus giving you an advantage.  Any changes that give you an advantage over other players is against the Terms of service, which is a bannable offense.

That probably would give a small advantage,

but moreover, i'm assuming he did this

to try and get the game to run more

    smoothly and higher FPS.

And if that's the case he failed horribly.

I currently run the game on 1600x900

4GB Texture streaming, high model detail

with other things turned down or off and the game

still looks great and I get an average FPS

    of around 80-110.

    that's with a FX-6300 and a RX 560 4GB.

But i don't think it's bannable as it is currently,

he's achieving this threw a Nvidia tool

and not modifying the game files directly.

Using 3rd party software to alter the game is against the End users Agreement

    http://www.apexrms.com/license-agreement/

    3. Restrictions:
3.1 You shall not reverse engineer, disassemble, reverse translate, decompile or in any other manner decode the Software except to the extent that the foregoing restriction is expressly prohibited by applicable law notwithstanding a contractual obligation to the contrary. You shall not distribute, loan, lend, lease, rent, share, make available, grant a security interest in, assign, or otherwise transfer the Software. You shall not alter, adapt, modify or create any derivatives of the Software or merge all or any part of the Software with another program. You shall not use the Software for hosting for a third party or operating a service bureau or any other use involving the possession of data by a third party. You shall not use the Software on a server or make the Software available for others to use, or facilitate access to the Software for others. You shall not use the Software in any way that is contrary to applicable law.

Thus meaning yes, it is bannable, and will get you banned.

Technically what he's doing is force modifying the

    videosettings.cfg through the Nvidia tool,

and not modifying the core game files

witch is what they are refering too.

You can modify the Videosettings file without

breaking there ToS and I believe that's exactly

    what he's doing.

So i say again, unless they say changing

that file is against there ToS, he's most likely

    safe from a ban.

You clearly have no idea what i'm talking about, the videosettings.cfg is just that, its a settings

file in your users/NAME/saved games/Apex folder and not a core game file,

editing that is not from what I have seen against the rules.

And that file is what I am guessing he is modifying.

He's not going into the core files, decompiling them

    and re working video settings.

But I digress, we will just have to see what Respawn says about it.

    If anything.

No, you probably wont. There are certain instances where modifying the game is allowed. One usually being in the graphical settings department. You especially won't get banned if it's not with the intent to have an advantage, and it would be extremely difficult to prove something like this is only used for the purpose of an advantage.

And even that's not true all of the time. Certain mods to the game can be made, and they only have the intent to cause an advantage. I've used this example before, Shroud uses at least one macro when playing. One being to make the Hemlock full auto when set to single fire mode.

It wasn't quite the same thing. The BFV banning was reported for several reasons that pertain to BFV and not Apex Legends.

Also, this is a user reported banning, so it can be taken with a grain of salt.

A lot of banned players will use any excuse possible, "I wasn't cheating", "My Brother did it!!!1", "I was hacked", ect...

  • Comes down to the devs, IMO it absolutely should be, particularly when you have to use a third party app to achieve it, its hard to detect AFAIK and its far a less accepted thing these days because old games had basic geometry anyway so the tweak (picmip) just simplified textures, in modern games it removes things like foliage which as far as I'm concerned is cheating.

    Apples for Apples.

Dice confirmed players reducing graphics like that will face a Ban.

Pretty certain Respawn will do the same.

    Time will tell.
