The battle pass has 2 parts to it a free part and the paid part (which is then split into 2 further parts, but we'll leave that alone for now). I've copied the blurb from the update below which explains:

FREE REWARDS

Everyone that plays Apex Legends during Season 1 can earn the following rewards:

1 Wild Frontier Legend Skin
5 Apex Packs
18 Wild Frontier themed Stat Trackers

These free rewards are unlocked at different battle pass levels, just like the paid content. Although you'll see the paid content in your battle pass progression it will only unlock the free items for you as you hit those unlock levels.
