They just splitted the year in quarters maybe,  it will be easier to handle for sure; in addition, doing this they will avoid all the people complaining about how they could not manage to complete the full season due to lack of time (big excuse, due to the fact that for both S1 and S2 i had a few weeks gap without playing and still managed to complete them within the first two months!) 

I assume probably because

There is the holidays comming and the season would end around Dec 31 on new years eve. Also probably because people been asking for longer time to finish the battle pass. Because they couldn't with family, work, social life and has been asking for extra days..

thats my guess.

Longer seasons can only be a good a thing really. I  mean it gives us less pressure to do dailies and weeklies...which  a lot of people griped about. As koochi stated it gives the devs more breathing room also.

Win win situation in my mind.
