Should I update my GPU drivers?

Question: Should I update my GPU driver to the latest?

AMD Adrenalin has frequent driver updates(almost every month?).

The updates are usually for the FSR game supports.

Mine is just a low low end GPU.

Now every time an updates/upgrades/downgrades,

THIS GAME will make my CPU goes 100% initially.

I can stay on the current driver and play for a whole year or until the game is no longer avail.

If Respawn says update, then everytime my CPU goes 100% and its lifespan gets shorten.

Imagine maintenance a PC every(let's say) 6 months, change thermal paste...clean fans...

While this game will make 3 months. If others who overclock their CPU, I don't need to say.

I am not sure if it is worth it to upgrade to a higher PC for the sake of this one particular game.

If this forum has a voting booth...

1. Yes, Update driver & clean every 3 months.

2. Buy higher end PC.

3. Play until there's smoke coming out.(Same as New World?)

4. Go play other games.

5. Stop being a pathetic douchebag and play the game.

  • @too0ld4thi5what is the purpuse of cleaning your pc every 3 months, I have my pc for years and it has been cleaned like 2 times because it was just really dusted or I was changing parts so might aswell clean it right?

seriously man there is no need to reapply paste every 3 months

the thermal paste should last for few years before actually losing it's conductiveness, probably more it depends

your CPU runnig on 100% claims nothing it's the tempatures that determine the CPU wear

my game also runs at 100% CPU "in the firing range" GPU too at 100%

it depends on what specs you have

another thing is if it's worth upgrading pc just because one game

have you considered lowering video settings?

also you mentioned cleaning the pc does your pc have dust filters?

what other games do you play? is the only demanding game you play Apex? if yes than it's probably not worth spending money

  • I would say yes to updating your Gpu drivers because of the Updates for games and may or may not function properly if not updated.

you don't need to change thermal paste every 3 - 6 months, you should always read the manufacture recommendation / use of the product on how long a thermal paste will last. For instance Artic silver lasts around 7 year's or so. I would decompound my PC every 4 - 6 years depending on the heat that my Cpu and Gpu is at.

As for cleaning you should clean your Pc from dust at least Twice a year with no animals in house and around three to four times with animals in the house depending on how much fur, dander, and dust is floating inside your pc. The better you maintain your pc and components from over heating the longer the PC will last.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. I guess you don't understand what I wrote there.

I wrote.... "Imagine maintenance a PC every(let's say) 6 months, change thermal paste...clean fans..."

@damsonwhufndthis Run your CPU 100% everyday for 6 hours and let's see if your PC can last for 15 years.

I have a Pentium 1 running on a IDE HDD with WinXP on a motherboard with bulged capacitor is still kicking. Oh~ the monitor is CRT type.

     - Lower video settings - Done that.

If your CPU is running 100% everytime you are at firing range, I think you should check your PC.

I don't have this 'everytime' 100% at firing range.

I am saying everytime there's a new driver updates, the CPU will goes 100% for THIS GAME.
Only initially. I spent 30mins at firing range just to wait it drop to 50%.
Wait at lobby when switching to trios, CPU goes 100% again and have to wait again.
OR I can just drop into the game and lag or just let someone else kill me and redo again.

ALL these process takes me more than 40mins...for the CPU to come down after New driver updates.
This is only initially after I updated my GPU drivers. If I play on the next day, no more 100%.
But when a new driver comes out, then I would have to redo again. Downgrade drivers also same.
Whenever I make changes to my GPU drivers, CPU will goes 100% for this GAME only.

I hope you guys understand what I'm writing here. Is this my fault that my CPU goes 100% or is the game at fault?

  • @too0ld4thi5I already am running my pc almost 24/7 and most of the day I spend gaming

The game wants the CPU to run at 100% man, it is literally utralising it because the more cpu you use the more fps and smoother game is.

Also I don't understand how less utralised CPU makes your game run better?

Another thing, just because you know little bit about computers doesn't mean you are the expert and can give veryone advices.

"Run your CPU 100% everyday for 6 hours let's see if your PC can last for 15 years."

The utralisation has absolutely 0 take on CPU's longevity, it might aswell go 200%, if the tempatures are low enough they can't damage the CPU.

Utralisation means the speed and "busyness" of which the CPU is being used, it has nothing to do with tempature.

High utralisation only makes CPU hotter, but again, if the CPU doesn't run at crazy tempatures like 100°C (200°F) than it's fine.

Also how do you know the state of CPU while playing  the game?

I forgot to ask, what's wrong with CPU running at 100%? Does it make the PC lag?

Is Apex the only thing that's using the CPU when it's running at 100% or could it be perhaps some other app?

For me Apex can lag when other programs suddenly start doing something, like antivirus starts scanning or some gamestarts updating.

    Oh Gosh....You don't understand English ...

Here's what you should try to do.

When you launch your game, Open up your 'task manager' and see how much usages Apex is using.

If your 'Apex' is using 80%, then why don't you try closing others apps.

And if your 'Apex' goes up to 85% after you clearing some other apps..

It means your Apex is hogging your usages. It wants to eat more.

"I forgot to ask, what's wrong with CPU running at 100%? Does it make the PC lag?"

If you don't see skipping frames with 100% usages during game fight, then you're ok.

If you can alt+tab to other windows smoothly and watch youtube with 100% usages then your PC is much better than all the others.

If you think, on the Technical sections shouldn't have a pin up thread regarding about 100% usages CPU troubleshooting, then you have nothing to worry about.

I am not a PC expert but I have experiences on it. I repair my own Power Supply unit.

I ran a PC 24/7 for 5 years and it die on the 6th. Yours is almost 24/7.

That story was almost 20 years ago but today technology has advanced so much,

so you don't have to worry about your PC dying the next day.

Whats my title? If you can read properly, then the 'thermal paste/maintenance' would not make a lot of big sentences.

I did wrote that an assumption about if the CPU continue to make 100% usage, the lifespan and maintenance would be shorten.

Did I or did I not?

The question was if I upgrade my GPU drivers, the CPU will goes 100%.

Why would it goes 100%? Idling at the lobby shouldn't use 100%.

    Loading/Launching a game does.

If you don't know what does a 100% CPU usage do to your computer, you can try google it.
