While I outright don’t support smurfing, I absolutely “get it”. Players want a less intense version of Apex. Unfortunately, aggressive SBMM makes the game pretty miserable if you are above average. So really, the smurf problem is totally exacerbated by the agro SBMM.

A friend of mine tried apex legends and can't even enjoy it since he said that everyone's too good already and he would also sometimes get in lobbies where the champion has a 20 bomb and 4k badge that is only level 50.
- 5 years ago@Axs5626Sxa5001 y sbmm cut the fun of apex with their RNG. was in season 1 u can play with p2020/mozambique but now u can't
its not fun play with 2 weak teammate against full of premade diamond/master/predator.
sbmm (if done correctly ) in ranked mode only. - DarthValtrex5 years agoHero (Retired)@Axs5626Sxa5001 You ruin the game for the lower skill people.. They'll all quit playing and you'll be stuck with a bunch of try hards in a dead game.
Toss in that SBMM is probably best thing to deal with cheaters as it ends up dumping them all in lobbies with other equally "skilled" cheaters.- 5 years ago@DarthValtrex
I’m not convinced that reducing the SBMM would result in the game dying. Apex was doing well before they ramped things up (back before the Duos update in 2019); the game had grossed close to half a billion at that point. I agree that they are probably making even more money now, we’re talking about a company maximizing profits, not outright saving their game from death.
I get it though. People love their SBMM. Some people feel that every single match should be as ultra competitive and sweaty as possible. SBMM isn’t going anywhere. But my argument is that they need to reward above average players more for their skill.
If I’m going to sweat in public lobbies that LITERALLY have over 80% Pred contrails (despite those players only constituting less than 1% of the player base) then I should be offered greater incentive to play. Once you reach level 500, sweating in pubs is actually pointless. They need to either increase the level cap or offer better rewards.- DarthValtrex5 years agoHero (Retired)@Axs5626Sxa5001 You might have some points there. I think it depends how it's reduced. I'm a mediocre player who has some brilliant moments. I don't mind when I'm bumped into the predator lobbies.
