@reconzero Do you make things out of passion or is everything purely about making a profit at this point? There's a balance, but pretty obvious at this point what direction Respawn and EA have chosen.
The philosophy of game development seems to have shifted towards just making a profit these days, at least with Tripe A studios. Games are being designed around the monetization aspect rather then finding the fun in your game. If you make a good game, it will draw in more players. You'll retain those players, and you can have a healthy sustainable income. It's definitely possible, but greed almost always ruins that.
As a player, why bother thinking about what makes the most amount of money anyways? How is that beneficial to us? Long as they're turning a profit to sustain the game that's all I'm interested in. I don't care at all about them getting stupid rich off of overly aggressive monetization. I'm interested in them making the best game possible.
So yeah, if they cracked down on cheaters, improved the servers, you would most definitely see an increase of players. Those players would then be more comfortable spending money on a game they can trust. I don't spend money anymore on the game because I don't trust them to improve the servers or cheater situation. They keep proving me right on that, so not spending a dime on the game anymore.
