So Upcoming Account Lock Hypocrisy with the new Cross-Progression

So by these two rules stated in the cross-progression thread that I have copied below, loudly state an upcoming change to players in my same predicament.

I have two EA accounts - will moving my PSN/Xbox account to my other account transfer my progress or content?

No, any progress or content unlocks are tied to your original EA account. By unlinking your account you will lose any progress you have gained on that account.

Moving a platform from one EA account to another will provide access to your main EA account content on both platforms, but will not transfer any content from the second EA account.

If you have unlinked a platform account mistakenly, relinking the account to the original EA account will restore progress.

I don’t want to use Cross Progression - can I opt out?

No, there is no way to opt-out from Cross Progression.

So, by these two alone one can assume that if we are not able to merge data from two separate EA accounts and get the skins, currency, etc and we will be soon forced to merge accounts, We will be locked out.... How are we gonna be able to play? The data, the money, the time, the collection from PSN will be lost if we merge to our other accounts. I unfortunately have time and money in both accounts and don't plan on losing any of it. Someone had to point out this hypocrisy.

Cross progression was never meant for separate EA accounts.

It was meant for one account that was played on different platforms.

The merge would then only effect the same account played on different platforms.

@EA_Mari  @Asmodeus566 What's the reason why they can't merge the data from one account to another? Its proven possible by other games and other companies. I just see it as EA taking advantage of players and restricting them from all of their content they have rights to.

@Cyclops1522 No one is being restricted from any content they own unless the accounts are registered under the same email and items are duplicated as stated in my guide:

"Content - what if I have the same content (skin/heirloom/etc) on both of my accounts?

Unfortunately, no refunds will be issued for content acquired multiple times. The content will not appear twice in your inventory."

Other than that, as mentioned above, that will not affect any of your content as your accounts ARE NOT registered under the same EA email. You will still have all the items you own in your PlayStation:

"I have two EA accounts - will they get merged?

No, only accounts connected to the same EA account will be merged. If you want to tell which accounts you have connected to your EA account you can check your account connections by going to https://myaccount.ea.com/cp-ui/connectaccounts/index and going to connections:"
  • @Cyclops1522 - Yeah I honestly am not expecting anything to happen for my accounts either.

I started playing Apex when it first launched on PlayStation and had an EA account associated with that account, 2 years later, I started playing on PC, and unknowingly ended up with a second EA account since, at the time, there was no reason to link anything at all. Cross-Progression did not exist.

Fast forward to now, I have unlinked my PSN account from the old account to my current one I use for Steam and am being told that the hundreds of dollars I spent and time I put into the game are not going to transfer over?

So that leaves 5 heirlooms, countless skins, and other unlocks I will now........still not have access to for whatever reason.

It really does not make sense.

@Grim_Tactics It does make sense though. All unlocks and progress are accumulated on our EA accounts, not our Xbox/PSN/PC accounts.

In your particular case unlinking your PSN from the 2nd EA account does nothing for you, because the Apex Legends unlocks are not tied to that account, but are tied to the EA account that you just unlinked it from. They did not intend for separate EA accounts to be merged. This is only to merge multiple platforms under the same EA account.

From what I've seen though, if you were to relink your PSN account to the other EA account, your unlocks should still be there, on that EA account. It just will not be able to merge with your other, separate, EA account that you made for your Steam account to link to.

You can't "unknowingly" end up with a 2nd EA account. You created that 2nd account, instead of linking your Steam account with your existing EA account that you were already playing on.

@dSKyNafinchin you can "unknowingly" do so when there was no reason to ever access an EA account when on console.

There was literally no reason a console player would need to log in to an EA account outside of accepting the EA ToS when launching the game because you were required to.

As a console player for 20+ years, I never had a desire to game on PC as all my friends were all on console. It was only within the last 2 years that I decided to make the move to PC. All other companies that offered cross-progression, this was never an issue.

"Oh, my MW account on console was linked to a random email address. No problem, just move it to the one I created on Steam and all progress is there."

This was the same for other accounts.

So when I started gaming on PC and downloaded Apex, it again asks you to create an account or whatever to accept their terms, so I did so, with the email I always use for gaming.

When I found out that I had two EA accounts, I didnt think it would even be remotely close to an issue as it has not been at all since I moved to PC and migrated progress from other console games to their PC counterparts.

Sure, I still have the items on console, but that is of no use to me and being told it cant be migrated because of that is going to really tick a lot of players off because there are a lot more than just those that post here.

I will still play the game because my level on PC is higher, but it still sucks that all those skins and heirlooms are basically lost.

  • @EA_Mari That's really funny that you say that credit won't be gained for duplicates but I have been told in live chat by multiple support agents that EA would and the chat transcripts to prove it so why aren't you guys on the same page. Also the question went unanswered, Why is it that other companies can merge different accounts but EA refuses to do so?

Because they're separate accounts. You can't merge people either. That'd be weird.

  • @DankToliet @EA_Mari I don't understand your analogy. Its data..... we are talking about data and information being merged. Such has been proven possible by Blizzard recently with Overwatch and Epic Games also had a feature a log time ago. It is not rocket science... I understand there may be fear behind it being used for malicious intent (I.E. buying and selling accounts) But with a diligent process set up with support and/or verification via email or via the original platform in app, that could be avoided. So once again, why is EA not able to do such?
