@HappyHourSumwur"I have no idea how Respawn measures "skill" and they won't tell either."
And with good reason. But I'm pretty sure with a few player's data to go on we could reverse-engineer a fairly accurate formula. As an outlier player I think my data is possibly even a little more revealing than most. My number of matches is high, my number of kills is, relative to matches, extremely low. My number of wins used to be above average until I stopped chasing the number and now it is almost exactly the statistical average of 5%. I think the last few seasons' mm algorithm is designed to produce pretty much that, and to make it very hard to get above it, but that's just speculation since I'm not trying to hit any particular number anymore. My accuracy numbers are high with the tripletake, and probably only slightly lower than average with autos. I don't use anything else so pistol and shotgun numbers are irrelevant. Lastly my damage numbers are very low relative to matches played or hours played.
My results in terms of mm are, if I'm honest, pretty soft. Not soft at the beginning of a season, or during any kind of BR alternative like Three Strikes, but fairly soft the rest of the time. By "soft" I mean that I get beat by teams always, by individuals only sometimes. It's rare that I have a team of my own so I've made my peace with 1v3 situations. I've learned to do what I can, and to get out of Dodge when all options are exhausted. No free kills for coordinated full teams if I don't have one of my own. This is the mindset that leads to a very low kill count, low engagement rate, and just generally brittle statistics. I think this is what the algorithm sees and I think it generally takes it into account when and where possible. Hence the term "soft."
If I have a criticism then it would be about how the matchmaker assembles a squad. Far more than about how it balances a lobby. On the other hand, in terms of squad composition I can't be pleased, to it really doesn't matter what the algorithm does or doesn't do. But I will take this opportunity for yet another plug for objective-based matchmaking in place of skill-based matchmaking.
