The Game I Once Loved

Introduction:

Some of you may, or may not remember me. I was an active Diamond / Master player, season upon season and also an incredibly active member of the forums. I ran a successful club, where the majority of the players made it to Diamond / Masters and even some Predators too.

To note:

It’s been around a year since I stopped playing Apex, I have kept myself up to date via YouTube and still I’m in contact with a lot of my squad members from the past (we are all in a group chat on WhatsApp, around 17 of us).

Main Focus:

It’s literally been a year, since I have gamed and I mean completely gamed. I moved country and have had to focus on work, getting settled into my new life and gaming hasn’t been top of my priority list.
With that said, I came back to the UK recently and have started playing Apex again on my brothers account (he doesn’t play).
Rusty, is an understatement… I played multiple games was having loads of fun on his level 17 account getting kills, holding a decent K/D ratio, winning some games but the lobbies felt balanced.
All of a sudden, bang… I’m in games with 4K damage players, recent Masters, Predator badge players etc and I can’t even get a kill now!

Issues:

What on earth has happened to the match making? I’m an experienced player, I know which guns are good, ok, I’m not anywhere near the level I used to be able to play at but come on, I get shredded game after game and the ‘get good’ excuse just can’t work because the players I’m playing against are 10x if not 20x better than me.

This game, used to be so fun. I used to be able to drop with Random’s, have a good game, even if I was Solo (as most Random’s leave when they die) I would still enjoy the game. I’ve been playing since Season 1 and stopped August 2022 (not sure what season that was) I have to say, I’m not sure I’d even want to come back as a ‘full time’ Apex player again?

The new maps, are well designed (don’t quote me) as far as I can see. It’s great how the interface has changed and that it’s still not fallen into the ‘pay to win’ criteria. But the games matchmaking has seriously, but rock bottom.

Open to see what everyone else’s thoughts are…

To note:

I used to only play ranked - I can’t at the moment as my brothers account is at level 20 or something. I used Pubs for warm ups (30 - 45 mins hot dropping) but it seems so bad now.

@hayhor Die to? It's hard to full kill an ant across the map with an AR anyway. But how much dmg and supressing fire can it do. I constantly force everyone to pop bats and thus take them out of the game. When I stand on B and shoot at someone who's 30-30'ing on C, I just make him go away to heal for some time, not necessarily shoot at him to full kill him. With a Flatline I will most likely not make someone at 100-150m go away.
But I guess we just play completely different games. In my games R301 combined with a good close-range gun is usually better than a Flatline/whatever gun.

Do you know what I find quite interesting about all of this.

Despite the R-301 being dubbed the 'best AR' for multiple seasons, I wasn't a big user of it. I massively agree with @hayhor about the Flatline and I've always thought it was a better weapon. There was one season though, were it was *.

The Hemlock, Havoc, Spitfire, Flatline have had multiple turns on being the best weapon in the game. I just think where the 301 was such an easy gun to use, everyone liked it, everyone picked it up and it was never IMO overpowered - just insanely popular.

Since my return this season, I have to say, I prefer so many other weapons, but the Nemesis is just a worse version of the Hemlock - it's good due to the current game state though.

Well, agree with this at least. Hemlock is/was far superior. I hate the rounds where Nemesis is the only AR choice. Sometimes I just pick Spitfire/Alternator instead, but Spitfire is just so dogwater now, so that's not much fun either.

Honestly, I can remember having a conversation on here and I think @hayhor was actually ranting about how it needs to nerfed etc etc. and I was defending it, this was seasons and season ago though, before he was a champion on here.

It was such a good gun, on KC and WE it was soooo good!

@rockyboy1998 I don't remember this. Which gun? Hemlock or spitfire? I think I remember being frustrated by the spitfire when it was crazy strong up close in hip fire. Hemlock is a hidden gem.

Welcome back to a game where cheaters and smurfs are allowed to run rampant and anyone who isn't a top player is unable to have any sort of fun.
I myself am sitting on the side lines now, watching and hoping for improvement, but until then I have no interest in the trash apex has become.

@HappyHourSumwurunfortunately, when it comes to matchmaking, Apex is now as broken as Overwatch, in that sense that you either get fullstack team, or suffer with random potatoes and very occasional good players

@rockyboy1998 pretty sure the only game out right now that i CANT play with IRL friends. SBMM ruins every game it touches. since im at least average at this game, it groups me up with sweats and Apex isnt exactly the easiest game so every match we just get * on. how are you going to have a game where i cant even play with IRL friends because it just turns into a 1v3 every match. every game is just people stacking pubs as masters
