Tips for caustic?

I wanna learn Caustic mainly because I really, really, really like his heirloom and after today's pack sale im less than 50 packs away from shards. I know i should get the heirloom of the character i play most but thats the problem. I like just about everyone (including caustic) equally. So i decided why not pick up the legend with my favorite heirloom as im so close?

So what caustic tips do you have for me? Beginner or advanced.

  • @Noobby_Groovy777 I’ve been a Gibby main for 2 years and this season I’m dedicated to only play as Caustic or Newcastle only in rank up to diamond. I don’t know much yet but I’ve got some not so obvious tips. One is to use his recon abilities. This is very important in rank to know if another squad is following you or have the same route as you do since you don’t want to get sandwiched between squads. Place some barrels along the way even if you’re not bunkering down. A semi obvious tip is to not rely on your gas too much. The gas is there mainly to slow and block some vision but never to kill. The damage is there to pressure them to move but it rarely kills competent enemies.

Pretty sure @hayhor has more gas man tips. Glad I’m not alone loving Caustic this season. Hope we get his heirloom soon!

  • @Noobby_Groovy777 I used to play a lot of caustic. You missed his golden age when there were more windows and you could chuck barrels really far through them. As cheese said use your barrels to monitor your back. Even if they shoot the barrel you'll hear it. Use those barrels to control buildings by blocking doors and funneling people inside the door you can mark best. Dont even put a barrel on that door. Let the enemy inside and shoot them. Placing your ult at the right time in the right spot is really important. The biggest mistake I see are caustics who don't preplace barrels and people that try to rely on gas to kill people. If someone is shooting you you don't have time to pull a barrel or your ult.
  • Keep dropping the cans, wherever you go. There's always some unfortunate test subject to annoy and have plenty of lolz.

  • @Noobby_Groovy777 As an owner of quite a few heirlooms I will agree his is the coolest. Just pulling it out that puff puff is amazing. But I'd still tell you to get the one you main. They are all cool in some way. My most disappointing one for pulling out and strafing is paths but it's quite fun to punch people with the gloves.
  • @Noobby_Groovy777 Pretty much what everyone else said. The better caustic is one who can both push and defend rather than one or the other. You can shoot your own barrels to force space between other teams and you should place barrels in blind spots, If you are bunkering down know every entrance to avoid being flanked. The more common threat you'll run into are experienced players who - a) disable barrels "devs nerfed em a few seasons back so shooting at the base so they can be destroyed them without triggering" or b) spam chuck grenades "less common, but depending on the area it can work".

  • @Noobby_Groovy777 I main Caustic, even though I like to play other legends for variety. His weakness is his hit box and being caught out in the open without much cover or good spots to place traps so avoid that. Use his barrels often and wisely, hide them whenever possible, use them when reviving to block line of sight and shoot them yourself when you need to buy time because this is a deterrent to regular players, but remember most sweats will push regardless because if they kill you the gas will disappear quickly. The ultimate requires the most effort due to needing good placement or it becomes very easy to avoid, it’s great in the final ring when there is nowhere to run and in tight spaces etc, remember to push a team that’s being damaged by your ult because they are also suffering other negative effects. His barrels also act as an alarm so keep an eye out for them triggering behind you, it gives enemy positions away which is handy. Hope this helps a little along with others advice.
