Unfair lobbies when playing with a friend

Whenever I play with my friend, we get put into lobbies with people who are currently masters, have pred badges and so on, that completely destroy both of us and we don't stand a chance.
The highest rank I've ever been is diamond 4, and highest for my friend is GOLD, they're currently bronze, haven't touched ranked since season 8.
My KD is 1.4 and theirs is 0.6. They don't play often whatsoever, and on top of all that, they are on console, while the rest of the lobby is always PC.

Sorry if this isn't the right place for this, but it just seems so unfair? It only ever happens when I queue with them too, when I play alone the lobbies are more manageable.

  • I play only solo queue, and I spend the whole day playing against 3-stacks in Wildcard. I also frequently run into current or former Master-tier players (though naturally, never on my own team).

Solo queue is in a much worse state than the queue you play with friends.

In 90% of my games, I have to hold my teammates' hands, while in every match, I get jumped by three players at once (coordinated 3-stack play). Not to mention the number of cheaters still playing on the EU server. Some players with long-standing accounts still haven't been banned for using controller cheats :)

Okay I get all of that thank you, just still think it's unfair that it's lobbies of much higher skill than either of us are.

There are so many matchmaking deal-breakers in that post that I hardly know where to begin. But I'll try.

First: Apex is known to go harder on a stack than on a solo queue player. So your lobbies will be harder than either of you are used to when solo queueing.

Second: The skill-disparity between you and your friend is not something the system can do anything about. It will match you by the highest skill of the two of you, which is what it should do to prevent that higher-skilled player from becoming the "fox in the henhouse" in a lower-skill lobby.

Third: Throwing a console player into a PC lobby is always going to end in tears. Period.

So you're witnessing first hand the irony of a game where everything about it is designed to encourage friends to play together... until they actually try it and see how disastrous it is. If you have to queue up with a friend, at least in this game, the two of you had better be pretty close in skill if you don't want one of you to get rinsed over and over again. And even then you need to be prepared for some of the toughest matches you ever played. And you need to be on the same platform.
