What does Apex need my webcam for?

Hey,

Did anyone notice that when you start Apex, the webcam goes ON and when i close Apex, it goes OFF?

What the actual hell?!

I hope you do realise this is a potential GDPR breach.

OK, thank you. You can set that back to "1", just in case it leads to other audio issues.

I'm fairly certain it's the mic that's being accessed as it's not a super-rare occurence, and I haven't been able to replicate anything with the non-mic'd cameras I have here. Do you have the ability to isolate/disable the mic part of the camera, either via a physical switch or -if you're comfortable with it- via Device Manager?

Sure, i prefer that as well but when I do use it, I am using my headset. It is set as default MIC.

Nope, that's not it. I've changed this value to "0" (was "1") but it has no effect.

Oh and I've been focusing on the mic part, but can we just make sure the camera isn't being used by Apex?

If you hit the Windows Key and type "security settings" you can find Camera to the left. Click this and check the list of apps which are allowed to use the camera. Apex shouldn't be there, but please let us know if it is.

  • @EA_David Yup, this last solution fixed the issue.
I've disabled my webcam MIC completely, not that I ever needed it ;-)
    Thanks!
  • @EA_David Sorry David, a bit irrelevant question, can you please ask Apex to improve mic quality? I mean when teammates talk in the game it looks like they are talking through a can and it's hard to understand them (while I know they have a proper mic and I have pretty good headphones on my side as well)
    Thank you 🙂
