Where is the actual gameplay besides looting?

Actually, there is even loot crates in Arena. Which just goes to show you that looting is endemic in Apex. Which I do accept. But it's the extent of looting and how much it ineterferes with gameplay which is the problem. I assume most players will agre ethat looting does not offer a genuine alternative to real FPS gameplay.
For example. I have played 29 games this 'Season'. I have 19 kills and 19 deaths. Which means less than 1 kill per game. Of those 29 games, 30% have been complete failures, where there were not enough teammates or teammates got themselves wiped out in an unrecoverable situation while looting and I just left.
Looting is not proper FPS gameplay. In Apex looting is suffocating gameplay.

Yes looting can be a problem. I hate "Loot Goblins".
But please tell me what FPS battle Royal game does not have looting mechanics and is a better game than Apex?
Would be nice to know.
Playing three stacked solves the goblin problem. Communicating with teammates can possibly curb the problem.
Well I think Apex could be a good game, but I think players are looting so much that it has obscured the reason for playing FPS games in the first place which is combat.
Cool. We agree Apex is good but could be better.
I do see the problems you mention and simplifying loot and loot RNG would be better.
Looking back at S1 and although there was a ton of loot it was simpler and better.
I have gotten to the point of less building and bin looting to mostly just looting my kills. If you find and kill the other players the tend to have what you need and you do not have to search every building and Bin. Otherwise I just craft an R301 and upgrade my armor at the same time and call it a day until I can loot my kills.
But yes looting needs to be rolled back because to much looting and Loot RNG is a pain.
- @Asmodeus566 Warzone is a better BR style FPS, certainly in terms of combat/gameplay. You can get a loadout drop in that game, which negates a lot of looting and there are also 'buy stations' where you can pick up ammo boxes and kill-streaks. Or you can play Plunder where you spawn-in with your load-out. Although Plunder is not always on the game mode rotation these days.
There is also more community in Warzone and people use their mics much, much more than in Apex. Makes it far easier to find teammates and make friends.
These are things which the Apex developers should pay attention to.Thanks for the info on Warzone.
I apricate it, however it is just not my cup of tea so to speak.
