Why are people against solo mode?

I love the squad based gameplay but I can see why people want a solo mode.  What I don't understand is why are people so against a solo option?

If a solo mode were to be implemented just don't play solo if you don't want to play solo...seriously not seeing any issue with implementing a solo mode.  If you want to play squad...play squad?  The people who want to play solo...play solo?  It's not like you would be FORCED to play solo.  People aren't asking for 3v to be removed in favor of 1v.  They're just asking for an alternative mode that isn't squad based.

I just don't understand why people are so against it; it truly baffles me.  I can see not wanting to play it but actually being against it being added to the game is beyond me.

Because the game was designed around team play?  Okay, squad play would still be there.  You can still play with team play.

Because of balancing issues?  Another non-issue that people seem to be caught up on.  I'd be willing to bet a majority of people asking for solo mode wouldn't even mind having a generic character with no abilities specifically made for solo-mode to even out the playing field.   The gunplay and movement on this game is very satisfying which is why people are wanting a solo mode in the first place; they want to be able to replace other games with this one due to the sheer quality of the mechanics and generally polished nature of the game.

Because there will be less people in squads?  That's going to happen regardless if the solo players give up on the game.  If they at least get a solo mode they will still be playing the game and it isn't like they won't ever play squad mode.  If anything, a solo mode would be good to help players scratch that gung-ho itch they have so when they do get around to going into a pug-game they'll be more inclined to play as a team.  Anyone purposefully going to squads would be more inclined to play with a team-oriented mindset because they could always play non-team oriented mode whenever desired.  There would be more teamplayers in squads while the lonewolves have their own playground to tango in.

From my standpoint, it seems more like an egotistical issue.  "Git gud, git friends u loser l0l its not hard to make friends, not the game for you, etc" vs. "actual gameplay issues, well thought out pros/*, etc.".  As if the game cannot be built upon whatsoever and has to remain stagnant for the duration of its lifespan.

Contrary to popular belief, some people actually don't like having to meticulously interact with others when playing games.  To people like that it makes the game stressful instead of enjoyable.  Some people don't like feeling like a weight.  Some people don't like feeling like a carry.  Some people just don't want to interact with other people other than shooting them in the face and becoming champion.  Is that really so hard to understand?  Not everyone is a social butterfly.

Seriously can't wrap my mind around why people are against it being implemented.  I can understand not wanting to play it, which is fine.  Don't play it.  But not being added to the game entirely?  What...?

Can someone who is opposed to solo-mode tell me exactly what their issue with it is in a clear concise manner?  What would be so game-breaking about it?

  • Honestly who knows. This game deserves a solo mode and a duo mode. I laugh at the dumb reasons people give for not wanting solos.

  • Ding ding ding!!!!!! Someone who understands

Actually thought about downloading Titanfall 2 just to get my solo fix...then I thought harder and decided I wouldn't since it's a respawn game and they refuse to implement it here...so I went and played some Halo 5 and bo4 ...not battle royales  but I get to run around and kill multiple ppl in a solo format

  • I'm all good for Solo's.
Played a bunch of PUBG, ROE etc.
Just need to lose the Legend abilities and I'm in.
    Devs game, Devs decision though.
  • Spellbreak looks like it will have a solo mode...maybe I'll suffer through squads until that drops

  • people like to think they control the actions and preferences of others

  • your right, i was/is against it.

but when i give it a thought i personally don´t actually have to play solo mode.

wich would make me feel i could care less if people wants to play solo.

maybe i would to sometimes rather than que up with randoms.

still im for the teamplay sqaud-gaming wich to me feels what Apex Legends is all about.

on the other hand if 3 million others wants a solo mode who am i to deny em that.

both options are viable when i give it a thought but a solo mode would be more like Apex Arena more than Apex Legends.

  • I'm with you, it's challenging to find exactly why people are against it, or why Respawn hasn't added it yet, but I'll try to bring some points up just for the sake of argument - note I'm just brainstorming and am not against solo mode:

    - I'd say most people that play Apex and other BRs are not playing with pre-mades, neither on discord, nor through origin friends, so in a complete guesstimate maybe 60-70% of the player base are solo queuing . The demands, feedback, suggestions and opinions appear to have an impact on Respawn, unlike some other dev teams, so maybe they do not want to be in a position where the majority of solos are now shaping and influencing the game based on their solo experience bias. In addition, maybe the devs really believe that the game could be better or has the most fun potential when played in a team setting (more fun = more purchases = win/win for everyone), and are just dictatorially forcing you to experience it by going out of your way and actually teaming up with people. In my personal experience, playing with mates and good randoms gives me no reason to want solos unless I just want to go ham and play extremely aggressively to rack up the kills, in which case some people prefer to play safer and hold me back.

    - It might give the game a bad look if suddenly solos are exposing the lack of balance in the game where everyone is playing Wraith. It's just unrealistic that they will scrap all abilities and just let you play Mr Blank Face just for the solo experience.

    - With regards to not enough players for squads - maybe. Or think about this: you are in a team of 2 and you need a random guy to fill up the team. Now, all of the random solos are playing solo mode, so for you two to play squads is all of a sudden an issue and will take significantly more time to queue up and find a game, since only solos who want to play squads with randoms will remain in squad mode. That would be a significant issue for me because one of the best, absolutely delighting features of Apex is being able to just connect to a game in a heartbeat. No waiting in lobby for 1 minute running around like a donkey PUBG style, no long queue-times, just click and go pretty much. Can't lose that.

To be honest IMO there shouldn't be too much fallout from adding solos, or at least duos, but I have almost no intention of playing those modes unless I rage out and just want revenge on all poor online souls for a change. The only other reason apart from aforementioned why I might be mildly against it would be if it took a significant amount of time from the devs making the mode and I would be missing out on the potential content they could have created or added. I.e. I think a Reconnect option would be more of a priority than solo option.

  • I, like most of you, am all for SOLO mode.. However, I personally want them to keep the abilities in that mode. Is there a real difference? Personally I would prefer going against a Gibraltar one and one as pathfinder, then going against 3 different characters as Bangalore. At least I would know any other special used (other then mine and the character I am fighting) means a 3rd, 4th or more, player is getting into the fight.

And as it has already been stated, if you can't handle things on your own, don't play the mode.
