I'm with you, it's challenging to find exactly why people are against it, or why Respawn hasn't added it yet, but I'll try to bring some points up just for the sake of argument - note I'm just brainstorming and am not against solo mode:
- I'd say most people that play Apex and other BRs are not playing with pre-mades, neither on discord, nor through origin friends, so in a complete guesstimate maybe 60-70% of the player base are solo queuing . The demands, feedback, suggestions and opinions appear to have an impact on Respawn, unlike some other dev teams, so maybe they do not want to be in a position where the majority of solos are now shaping and influencing the game based on their solo experience bias. In addition, maybe the devs really believe that the game could be better or has the most fun potential when played in a team setting (more fun = more purchases = win/win for everyone), and are just dictatorially forcing you to experience it by going out of your way and actually teaming up with people. In my personal experience, playing with mates and good randoms gives me no reason to want solos unless I just want to go ham and play extremely aggressively to rack up the kills, in which case some people prefer to play safer and hold me back.
- It might give the game a bad look if suddenly solos are exposing the lack of balance in the game where everyone is playing Wraith. It's just unrealistic that they will scrap all abilities and just let you play Mr Blank Face just for the solo experience.
- With regards to not enough players for squads - maybe. Or think about this: you are in a team of 2 and you need a random guy to fill up the team. Now, all of the random solos are playing solo mode, so for you two to play squads is all of a sudden an issue and will take significantly more time to queue up and find a game, since only solos who want to play squads with randoms will remain in squad mode. That would be a significant issue for me because one of the best, absolutely delighting features of Apex is being able to just connect to a game in a heartbeat. No waiting in lobby for 1 minute running around like a donkey PUBG style, no long queue-times, just click and go pretty much. Can't lose that.
To be honest IMO there shouldn't be too much fallout from adding solos, or at least duos, but I have almost no intention of playing those modes unless I rage out and just want revenge on all poor online souls for a change. The only other reason apart from aforementioned why I might be mildly against it would be if it took a significant amount of time from the devs making the mode and I would be missing out on the potential content they could have created or added. I.e. I think a Reconnect option would be more of a priority than solo option.

I, like most of you, am all for SOLO mode.. However, I personally want them to keep the abilities in that mode. Is there a real difference? Personally I would prefer going against a Gibraltar one and one as pathfinder, then going against 3 different characters as Bangalore. At least I would know any other special used (other then mine and the character I am fighting) means a 3rd, 4th or more, player is getting into the fight.
And as it has already been stated, if you can't handle things on your own, don't play the mode.
