Why are we almost 20 seasons in & I can punch ppl while holding gun?

It is absolutely, wholeheartedly absurd that if I am holding a gun, with ammo, that the game has a function to instead punch or kick an opponent close range when fighting….like if I am wielding a weapon and I press the button to shoot my gun…I expect my gun to fire…not punch or kick in the middle of a fight. This is ridiculous, why has this never been addressed? 

I can’t be the only one who experiences this.

    @DaDeDimson The issue is likely pressing on your stick too hard. Apex is really sensitive to this. Switch the melee button to something else and it will not happen.

    Yup. This is a button mapping issue. It happened to me regularly for the first four or five seasons until I finally dove into the setup menu and moved the melee function to a button on another planet where there was no danger I could ever hit it in any circumstance, accidentally or intentionally. Smooth sailing ever since.

    Stress makes it easy to fat-finger the right stick.  Consider re-binding your melee elsewhere.  Button Puncher is one fairly popular controller scheme preset.  If you're in barrel-stuffing range and have already done sufficient damage, melee is sometimes the way to go - a very quick 30 damage.
