If you solo que ranked, and your random teammates are Octane and Wraith...get ready to lose.
@DankToliet
I don't play a lot of ranked, 35 games so far this split, but I have fortunately never once solo queued it so thankfully, I've avoided those pitfalls. Made S4 so far (from Wood IV) thanks to my buddies who are good at comms and IGLing, and the fact that there are so many more players in these lobbies that I'm on an equal footing with or better than, compared to my pubs enemies. I've got the best kdr, avg dmg and win rate I've ever had in any mode in the game up til now, in this season's ranked.
I'll probably relax from solo pubs and just do this until my bud gets close to plat or so and the lobbies get over my head. All the myriad tales I've read on various forums plus watching some bronze to master streams had led me to never even consider playing ranked by myself. Stories like "I pinged a blue armor for my team mate five times but they refused to pick it up."
I can't overstate the value of having just one friend to queue with in this game who is at least half decent and you can get along with. If you're feeling desperate, send a PM to a couple people on the forum who sound like they might be an OK match for you and see what happens. I've done it before. I've sort of outgrown that relationship due to differences in mindset (if you approach this game with a growth mindset, it can eventually become frustrating to play with someone who seems complacent and not interested in putting in the work to get better). But it did help me through the frustration of a couple seasons where I felt like giving up on the game due to the solo q grind.
