I like to think, as I'm running away from my squadmates, that I'm giving them tough love. Learning to stay alive with a short squad is an artform, and so many people in this game will actually quit if they think you've abandoned them. They'll say it's because they're sure I'm going to get myself killed and why waste the rest of the match watching that happen, but the truth is: Depending on your squad at crucial moments is one thing. Depending on them to hold your **** all around the map for the entire duration of the match is another. That's a kind of dependence a lot of players would do well to break themselves of. It teaches you to look both ways before you cross the street. It makes you more aware of what's going on around you, it makes you more aware of exit strategies, and it gives you a much healthier respect for enemy bullets if you know there's no help close enough to bail you out of trouble. I know from experience it's very hard to do this in higher-skilled lobbies where tight squads will make you pay dearly for any deviation from the accepted meta, but lower down the ladder things are more forgiving. And more fun, imo.

Lol tough love. I like that concept but I highly doubt this is true beyond the hand holding bit for the other players that do it.
