Why playing a BR FPS if all you do is trying to avoid ANY fights?

I constantly run into very passive players on my team who seem TOTALLY scared of taking fights.

First of all, it's PUBS, so what have you got to lose?

Then, I understand not being reckless in your pushes, but a happy medium would be great!

So, if you are a player with a passive playstyle --which is fine-- and try to avoid ANY fights, why do you do it?

I'm sincerely interested in understanding the motivations behind it.

  • @Vdstrk When I first started playing I was heavy into cping and letting other teams destroy each other. Its a strat that seriously led to me having my highest win percentage seasons. What curved me from that was spending the whole game hiding and then having a pre-made pred squad kill you in 2 seconds, 15 of looting and having everything decked out to be insta downed while doing 15 damage was a horrible feeling so I decided to get better and have more fun. In pubs I almost always go hot just because I want to set a good tone either we win and start playing the game more strategic because after first ring it's like 3 or 4 teams that you have to find or we lose quick and I hop into another game. I play ranked very passive tho and am very selective of the battles I fight. But that doesn't always matter because the other day we pushed one team that respawned a teammate then get 4th partied where I got thirsted, get brought back to get 4th partied again. After that we had 1 fight for positioning for ring but by the end of the game we had 23 kills as a squad and only made one push to a fight and got 2nd place.

@PingAcceleranttDo you play ranked? The people in these lobbies pay a 60 RP door fee just to get into the game. They're broke without 6 KP and an 8+ placement. This fee is STEEP.

This thread reeks of people who don't have to suffer the current ranked system which deliberately rewards placement (as a BR should, tbh) which, in turn, if you have a few KP, rewards ratting as long as possible for maximum points.

Yes, but when you third party someone you actually take a fight. I am talking about people who do not even want to shoot a single bullet, they literally run away from each fight...

I understand new players for sure, and that is ok... It gets very frustrating in the long run, when you are paired with level 30s match after match, but that is pubs. The reason it gets frustrating is that I wish to be able to help my team, but when there is no comms, they do not listen, they do not take fights, do not push or defend/disengage, then after 20 matches like that... I feel frustrated and I have to stop playing for a bit.
It is so bad that most of the times it is totally irrelevant having ults, because you do not even need to use them, or do not even have a chance, because the team dies way to fast --ults are not even charged yet.

No, i do not play ranked at all. The main reason being that I do not have a team, and the little I played, at least at lower levels it is just as bad as pubs, that is just my experience.
  • @Vdstrk You have to empathize with people in the highest levels of ranked trying to scrape their daily feast.

The same people, in pubs, would be as wild as anyone else. It's just about the points.

Also, ratting is fun in some weird way. Playing the survivor.

I do empathize with higher level players, and I feel out of place when I'm paired with them.
The issue is that is it not fun to be the one who carries, and it is not fun to be carried.
The problem is, when I'm the one having to do the carrying, it may not happen.
I would like to transcend myself and become able to Carry the UN-CARRY-ABLE, but the chances of that happening any time soon are slim to none....

This is a typical scenario. the team lands in a decent area, with some loot, at least a gun and either shield or helmet. In the same area there is only another team. Both team mates are knocked after a few exchanges with the enemy team, you are the only one alive. You EVOLVE, transcend  yourself, temporarily, and manage to kill the entire opponent team, but are left with no health, ammo and armor.
You pick up the first team mate who already had a blue shield from the drop. You pick him up because his banner is about to expire. As soon as he's up he runs to loot the opponents boxes. Meanwhile the other team mate's banner is about to expire, and to save yourself a trip to a beacon, you go and pick him up. The first thing he does is go looting the boxes, and by the time you get there, there is nothing left. You ask for heals and cells, nothing. ok, so now you have to loot before fighting again.
You ping where you are going, and move next door and scavenge for loot, manage to find 2 cells and 2 syringes, so you heal up as best as you can, but you have no ammo.
In the meantime, the 2 team mates decided to move in another area on the opposite direction from you for who knows what reason, when you hear a rifle shot. One of your team mates has shot an enemy team who was completely unaware of your presence, and attracted their attention. Your mate shoots again, and misses again, and again. The enemy shoots back with a triple take and 2 shots after your team mate is down, and thirsted with the 3rd and 4th shot thereafter. The other team mate runs, once again, in the opposite direction.
To be a good team mate, you go for the mate's banner, and decide to take a look at his box, and surprise! 6 bats 4 med-kits and 440 light ammo among what looks like 10 cells and 4 syringes, a purple backpack which he took from a dead player 2 mites earlier, while you were rezzing the other guy on your team.
So, still not healed from the last fight, you pick up just the bare to survive 2 syringes, a packet of light ammo, and 2 cells to top off your shield which has turned blue during the previous fight, but while there also you take some shots and what you took from the dead player is not enough anymore, just to see a message popping up saying something along the line of "for real? you looting my box?" soon after he disconnects. He would have had to go in the zone to recover his stuff, but it was the first circle anyways, so he would have probably survived it, given the enemy team would have not scavenged the box first (As an afterthought, I should have probably pillaged his box, he left anyways).
You try to reach the other team mate who in the meantime has failed to see that he was running straight into another team and gets erased.
Shortly after you have 2 teams on you... you get killed.

Repeat this algorithm for 30 times in a row.... with variations like... instead of splitting and dying, you get jumped by a team while you are looking for loot with they had but did not share, You ping the enemy and are forced to defend yourself, hoping your TEAM will come to help. Instead, they just moved even farther. GG

I'm not blaming my team mates.. but does that sound like fun?

  • Looting my box is the number one way for me to drop out of a game. Yesterday, I had a teammate loot my box of my guns, ammo, and turbocharger while standing RIGHT NEXT to a respawn beacon midway through a game. Nope, no thanks. If someone needs something and I have it and can spare it, I'll drop it. If my box is going to be behind the wall, take what you want. Otherwise, stay out of my loot, because I'm going back for it.

Also, yes, it is beyond frustrating to have loot goblins eating up your kills loot. One of my friends is notorious for it. I now only revive one of my teammates and let them revive the other. My friend got mega pissed off the first time I did this, all because he couldn't loot the boxes first.

    Loot goblins stink.
