Since I'm still a newbie and it's only my second season I only tried it once when a club member wanted to play it and I didn't care for it because the first weapon is havoc like someone else said and that's one of the hardest for me to control. I wish they started you with flatline, alternator, or Mozambique, something easier to use and less recoil.
Also, since mixtape has a lot of people with either aimbot or perfect aim I just couldn't get any shots off with the havoc before dying. I like the idea of gun run and I think if they started you with an easier gun and maybe had a larger map it would be better, but it's something I probably won't go back to until I get more experience. I see the frustration the OP is having though.
@AymCTL As far as I've seen, depending on the match, you can start with either the Havoc, Hemlock or R-301. It's always one of those 3 for me.
For Gun Run in general, I do enjoy the game mode, but I wish it was separate from Mixtape, because it's not a mode that I want to play every day. For me, it's more of a "fun weekend mode". I like to switch over and solo-queue duos for a match, to skip over Gun Run, most days. I definitely wouldn't entirely remove the game mode though
