You're right about one thing (many others, I'm sure, but this one sticks in my head): matchmaking is a no-win no matter how they choose to do it. Random will make some people unhappy. Loose SBMM will make others unhappy. Strict SBMM will produce yet another crop of unhappy players. People will always find something to complain about, which is not to lessen their discontent by implying that it's unjustified. It's just an observation on human nature. Everyone is always convinced that how ever it is that something works, it works to their disadvantage.
I loved this, btw: "there is a misconception across all communities about "the sweaty no life" and the "filthy casual". Neither is correct." This is very true, and again is a reflection of the mindset that says you're being screwed over and probably to someone else's advantage. Then again, how could it be any different in an endeavor which is based in on line anonymity, and where you must, by definition, treat almost everyone else as the enemy?
I had no idea Destiny had such a huge percentage of players sticking to pve. Boy, does that make me wish even more that Respawn would go back to that. Or at least create a new extraction-style mode for this game. That wouldn't get rid of live enemies altogether, but I assume there would be far fewer than there are now. I would call that a plus.
Does Respawn read every single post? No, I'm sure they don't. But I would also be willing to bet that they're made aware as trends emerge in these forums and on reddit and wherever else it is that people complain and criticize. Remember though, there's a difference between "this is broken" and "I don't like the way this works." I'm not saying they address the former quickly or often enough, but the latter is another story entirely. Things often work the way they do for reasons only the developer can fully understand... reasons that often make good sense if you're in a position to see the whole picture. And again, not defending EA here - I despise them as much as anyone - but they give the appearance of being a data-driven enterprise, and data seldom lies. It doesn't always tell the whole story, but it never lies.
Lastly, I had a good chuckle over your description of Destiny matchmaking: "As of now they use loose mm in certain modes, which is an ok middle ground only if you are at the bottom of the skill bracket, better players have it real bad, and guess what, the past 2 days I couldn't even get a match." My take away was exactly what it always is: modern games are built with skill gaps that are too wide by about 300%. They're too hard for a less-than-fully-committed player to be good at, create unmatchable sub-populations, and create environments that practially beg their players to experiment with cheating in all its different forms. I know. Not the answer you wanted to hear!
@reconzeroExactly, no matter what the form of intervention is someone would feel like they are at a deliberate disadvantage because of it. All the more reason to not have it and let things be or at least have modes with it and without it. At least you could work your way up if you wanted to, and it's not like we don't have ranked already for a "fair" experience.
Yeah, I think there will come a time, and I think it's pretty close, where extraction/pvpve would become the new thing. It's been predicted already and I think it's cool if the implementation is done right. I think the big thing here with all of it is just playing in a team with some variation. Which is why solo's will never work in this game.
I get that they monitor trends via reddit and elsewhere, but unless there is a massive spike in something I doubt they care. All the more reason for people to use the "me too" button and upvote, whether it influences them directly or not, given that it's a legit argument of course. Audio is another example where people just refuse to come together. I feel like people are too self absorbed and not looking at the bigger picture unless someone explains it in a video.
I dunno if it's like that tbh. Usually the closer the skill level the sweatier the match. Your basically just trading kills/shots with another player especially in arena type shooters, but in br loot matters. It's not the ideal experience tho either way. But I understand your take. Thing is, if we say many feel like the gap is too wide while only playing occasionally and as a result stop playing, do we really even need to acknowledge them? I mean pvp has always only been for a specific group, now it wants to include everyone outside of this group, hence the mess we have now.

Titanfall 2
That game is still strong, why would they take players away from that and put them here? It's one of their own games.
You're talking about, or similar to, Attrition and Bounty Hunt from Titanfall 2. Maybe a few other Gamemodes as well. - 3 years ago@Unitee01 very true!
