0x887A0006 - DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG Almost Every Time

Product: Apex Legends

What is your gamer tag/PSN ID/EA Account name? Jclwy11
Which Legend were you playing (if applicable)? All of them
Where did the issue occur? Loading into a match before legend select, or loading into the main menu after "Click to Continue"
Which part of the map or menu were you in? If you don't remember the exact name, please describe the area or what you were trying to do in the menu. All parts of the map, even flying in.
Loading into a match before legend select, or loading into the main menu after "Click to Continue".

Did your squadmates also experience the issue? No
How many matches had you played in a row before the issue occurred? Could sometimes get 1 or 2 matches in before the crash. Sometimes it always crashes and I can't play for the day
When did this happen? Since Steam release. November 5?

"0x887A0006 - DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG The application's device failed due to badly formed commands sent by the application. This is a design-time issue that should be investigated and fixed."

What should be happening instead? Not to crash.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? IDK

Please help with this error.

I've tried the following fixes:

1. Rollback driver

2. Reduce graphic settings

3. Registry edits (Tdrdelay)

4. Capping refresh rate to monitor refresh rate

5. Updating DirectX

6. Updating Microsoft Visual C++

I'm just really frustrated at the error as it's stopping me from having a night of fun with the boys. Please advise anyone.

  • @ChuckleBuckle97 Yea I've had the same problem for awhile now.
I even posted about it again recently, but you're not gonna get anything solved here aside from the reinstalling drivers and maybe some of the stuff you mentioned.
No problems with other games, just wonderful Apex =)
  • Yeah, I've scoured the internet and tried every solution available and nothing seems to work.

How frequent is the problem for you? The error appears to happen from pure luck. I can have a good night where I don't crash at all, or I can have an absolute trashy day with the game crashing at every loading screen.

Sucks, cause I'm new to Apex and I really dig the game.

    EA PLS FIX \s

    @ChuckleBuckle97 It happens every time.
    Between 10-30min of gameplay.
I ran stress tests on GPU,CPU and they work. Ram is also working. Formatted PC. Its just this game.

Every other game is ok, COD, PUBG, Valorant.

I am running an AMD Red Devil Raedon RX 5700 XT.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. it is getting worst and worst and crashing about every two or three games in apex.

    @ARwoody21 Good luck.
Aside from the DDU reinstall drivers, ensure everything is updated (which I believe you have already tried), they cant help you.
  • Yeah Its very frustrating but try looking for a program that might be overlaying over apex

i try deleting some and its reduced now for me but sometimes it got worse

  • Processor: R7 5800X

    Motherboard: X570 Aorus Elite

Graphic Card: AORUS GeForce RTX 3080 XTREME 10G

    Memory: G.Skill TridentZ Neo RGB 16gb 3600mhz CL 16

Have same problem and tryed everything...

Locking fps below frame-rate of the monitor... and using vsync adaptive

Locking fps below frame-rate of the monitor... and using vsync adaptive 1/2

Locking fps below frame-rate of the monitor... and using vsync disabled

Locking fps below frame-rate of the monitor... and using vsync double buffed

Locking fps below frame-rate of the monitor... and using vsync triple buffed

All of the above using FULLSCREEN/ Borderless Window

Unninstal my drivers using the program thingy in safe-mode and installing fresh version with latest drivers.

Formating the PC and installing everything fresh.

    Playing on Origin

    Playing on Steam

This is just EA being EA... really, they don't find solution, they give no help... Its a bug of the game I bought my new PC last month, everything is top of line, and my old PC add no DXGI DEVICE HUNG stupid error...

EA get your * together mates..

  • Hey there, I've just encountered the same problem on my pc (i512400f and rtx3060)
I checked all my drivers and I was up to date.

I went into my steam account/library/(Left click on game)/properties/local files/ and verified integrity of game files. (I have no idea why, i thought i would just try it)

I also disabled any overlays and background apps on my game  (for me it was nvidia geforce experience overlay that was displaying my FPS, but check discord, EPIC games running in the background, steam overlay etc)

I also reduced my anti aliasing in game to 8x down from 16x

Since then, I haven't had any errors.

I am an absolute potato with this stuff, so don't go thinking I know what I'm doing.

But, If you're reading this in 2022, maybe give this a go.
