AMD GPU Crash Fix - Stable for 4 days (5 hours play everyday)

I used to crash every day multiple times (once the game started crashing I was crashing every 2nd-3rd game). I did the following and now I don't crash at all or once per day and that crash only happens if I have youtube/twitch or other video/gif playing in a browser when I launch the game and/or I alt tab out multiple times. This is the only thing I have done that I can confidently say is not placebo for me as I have tried multiple other methods.

The fix is based off this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/apexlegends/comments/awsr4g/hey_guys_amd_user_here_found_a_big_fix_to_the/

But I only did the following:

-Update to GPU driver 19.2.3
-Game Properties > turn off Origin In-Game > Advanced Launch Options > COPY & PASTE
+cl_showfps 4 +fps_max 75 -novid
-Tick run as administrator in R5Apex.exe
-Lowered all graphics settings to low or disabled (important setting here is trilinear for texture filtering)

-Radeon Settings -> Gaming -> Global Settings -> Click Reset on the right for the drop down -> Click reset Shader Cache before you launch the game.

No need for BS registry edits

I can finally enjoy Apex without crashing often.

  • The only necessary part of this is the framerate cap though I do have most of the rest done as well and it is the only way to make the game not crash almost immediately and often. Still not satisfied though having halved my framerate is not exactly fair play if they release competitive season before they fix this I will be very disappointed
  • For me, I have tried just putting the 75 frame rate cap and it was still the same. One or a combination of settings that I mentioned have made the game a lot more stable so hopefully it helps others.
  • Having a capped framerate of 75 is not a fix, most people would rather play with crashes than 75fps ... especially those of us with 144/244hz monitors

  • Now going on 7 days with only 3 crashes this week compared to nearly 5 every day. I haven't crashed at all for the last 3 days. Don't be discouraged if you crash 1-3 games after you apply these settings especially if you were using your computer for a few hours beforehand. Just reset the shader cache before running Apex again. This has helped a few of my friends immensely as well.
