Apex - Easy Anti-Cheat CTD

I'm having an issue where I launch Origin and then apex as administrator, the EAC banner comes up, the game appears to fully load and then nothing. The screen flashes real quick and that's it. I can't launch apex again as Origin thinks its running, but the only relevant service I see is easyanticheat.exe Restarting Origin doesn't fix the issue.

I have found that if I go to C:\ProgramFiles)x86)\Easyanticheat\ and delete Easyanticheat.sys the game will load again (and crash again as I mentioned above), but the .sys file is locked until I reboot my PC, only then can I delete it. It says the file is in use otherwise.

Deleting this .sys file worked for for a few hours, but now the game won't even load up, so the symptoms have gotten worse. I updated my graphics card, disabled my anti-virus and windows defender file scanning, and re-installed Origin. I also did a repair on Apex Legends.

I can't figure out what's going on. I have a relatively new computer, all newer gen hardware.

  • Yes, I have tried everything.

After installing the patch today the issue has not gotten any better.

Currently, If I reboot my PC, start Origins as Administrator, and delete the EasyAntiCheat.sys file in C:\ProgramFiles(x86) then I can play Apex Legends for about 2 to 3 games before the application closes down, almost instantly without any kind of error message.

At this point, Origins thinks Apex is running so I cannot launch the game again, not even if I log out of my PC or restart Origins. There are no applications running either which seem related to Apex or Easy Anti-cheat. I must repeat the steps above to get the game working again. I have tired just deleting the .sys file I mentioned, however, the file is in use and it will not let me. Something is locking that file.

I have tried re-installing Origins, repairing Apex Legends, updating my GPU, lowering my GPU settings, booting to safe mode with networking, disabling my AV and adding .exe exceptions,  and all of the steps listed in that document you have linked. The only step I could not follow was the one to repair the Easy Anti-Cheat service due to an internal 500 server error on the link it points to.

I work is IT and software development. I hope I am wrong, but this appears to be an issue EA/Respawn need to patch. It could be related to my NVIDIA drivers, but more than likely there is an issue with Easy Anti-cheat, probably because Windows keeps updatijng its OS and Easy Anti-cheat can't keep up. I've read elsewhere they've been having a hard time keeping pace.

Believe we're having the same issue and the live support have either told me it's a hardware issue or nothing can be done for the time being, in my opinion its a * take ik the games new but surely focus on letting people play the game rather than in game patches... just imo

    EDIT:

I have just bought jump force, which also uses Easy Anti-Cheat, and I'm having the EXACT same issue. I cannot get in touch with Easy Anti-Cheat support because their support portal is broken. Can anyone get me in touch with them?

    Thanks!

  • I was able to play perfectly yesterday but now I'm having this same problem.
After the EAC banner appears and load, the game doesn't start.

Have you fixed this? I encountered this yesterday and was able to fix it today. I started off by uninstalling everything related to RGB lighting control, I read on multiple sites that Asus and eac don't get along. That didn't fix it for me however so I kept digging, apparently eac and windows 10 HOME edition don't get along at the moment either. I bought a windows 10 pro key online for about 50 bucks and my game is working now. (Although I still haven't tried to reinstall my rgb controlling software yet...)
