Apex damage

My son plays on Xbox and even when he is shooting someone it isn't registering or he gets way less damage then he is supposed to. He can empty a mag in someone and still they kill him and me first. We usually play together I suck but still feel like my screen shows one hit but then the kill cam show I was hit 12 times. I play on PS4 . I suck mine up to me being bad lol he usually carries me but no matter what gun he uses he isn't getting his hit markers or lower points even standing point blank with a shot gun he only hit for 8 points. It's getting hard to get him to even play because it makes it not fun for him.
