banned on steam but EA account says no ban history

I haven't played Apex for a year or more. A friend was playing and I thought it'd be fun to pick up again. I downloaded it on steam (previously used on Origin), and steam imported my account from origin and play history. 

When I was entering a match, it said my account was banned. Reason: banned. I went onto my EA account, and it said no ban history. I checked my emails, no email about a ban. No trace of a ban whatsoever.

Is this a common thing that Origin does - ban people for switching to steam? 

And before anyone suggests it - no, my steam account is fine. It's only an APEX issue.
