Black Screen After Launching Apex Legends
Hi,
I'm having an issue with Apex Legends where the game won't load properly.
When I launch the game, the initial loading animation appears normally, but after that the screen just turns black. The game doesn't seem to crash, and I can still see it running in Task Manager, but nothing happens even if I wait for several minutes.
This started recently, and I was able to play the game normally before. Has anyone else experienced this or found a solution?
Thanks!
Hi Dada12132,
Thanks for reporting this.
Since the game is still running in Task Manager after the screen goes black, let's try a few basic troubleshooting steps first:
- Make sure your graphics drivers and Windows are fully up to date. If the issue started after a recent driver update, you can also try rolling back to an earlier driver version. You may also want to perform a clean reinstall of your graphics driver using DDU.
- Verify/repair the Apex Legends game files:
- Steam: Library → right-click Apex Legends → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files.
- EA app: Library → Apex Legends → Manage → Repair.
- Disable any overlays or third-party programs that may hook into the game, such as Steam, Discord, NVIDIA, or other overlays.
- If you're using any GPU overclocking or undervolting, try returning the GPU to its default settings temporarily.
- Restart your PC after making these changes and try launching the game again.
If the issue continues, could you also let us know whether you can still hear the game audio or see your mouse cursor when the black screen appears?
It would also be helpful if you could share your GPU, Windows version, and whether you're launching the game through Steam or the EA app.
Thanks!
