Are you both playing from the same network and is either one of you on a University network?
Try rebooting your network and power cycle the console.
Reboot the power to the modem/router
- Unplug the power cable from your modem/router for 5-10 minutes to refresh the network.
PS4:
Power Cycle
- Touch the power button on the front of the PS4 for at least 7 seconds (until the system beeps twice).
- Turn it back on after 1 minute. Launch the game.

I'm having the same problem with exclusively EA multiplayer games on PS4. My brother and I are both on the same network with separately wired PS4s and tried your fix to no avail. We have no problem with any other games, but those from EA. We're on NAT Type 2.

@jmd10of14 Can you try deleting each other from your friends list and re-add each other to see if that fixes it?
