[COLLECTING DATA] Client/PC crashes with AMD-based systems

Hey legends!

As some of you have noticed, a portion of the playerbase has been experiencing crashes that results in either their client crashing or their entire PC freezing.

This thread is meant for these types of crashes for PC's with an AMD GPU in the recent period of the creation of this post.

(If NVIDIA Users are encountering this issue too, please make sure to mark this in your reply to prevent confusion)

Currently this issue seems to be caused by an issue in the game, though I personally haven't been informed that much of the issue.

A dev is willing to look into this issue, though for that we need to collect some data so it'll be easier for them to work on this issue.

We've been requested to collect this data:

  • PC Specs
  • Crash Dumps

Next to that it might also be useful to provide what you were doing before the crash happened (e.c Crafting, Healing, Walking on a specific part on the map and so forth)

This data will be shared with developers, I'll link through this thread through the proper channels.

When there's an update to the situation then I will make sure to put the update as an edit in this post.

How to get a DxDiag and attach it to an AHQ post

Follow this Article:

https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/pc/how-to-gather-dxdiag-information/

Or follow the steps:

(Open the run window by using Windows key + R)

(Currently using imgur as apparently my gifs are too large...)

Adding a Crash Dump to your post

Firstly, navigate to your main Apex Directory (Apex Legends)

From there, go to this directory: Crashpad/db

Follow the steps in this GIF, then attach the .zip to your post like you did with the Dxdiag.

Template for replying

What were you doing before the crash occurred?

(Put your answer here)

(Make sure to attach the DxDiag and the zipped .dmp files)

Good stuff, perfect. We'll close the thread now as we only needed a modest number of reports, but these should help with the investigation.

    Thanks you very much.

What were you doing before the crash occurred?

Almost random at the time, could be shooting, hoisting my gun, switching to ADS from hip fire, landing from flying, even in transition from loading screen to the game.

PS : up until now, every time I start my game, in the main menu, its always compiling shaders and stuff. It never did that last season or any season ever for me, this is the first time.

What were you doing before the crash occurred?

pretty much random at this point, it could happens when walking, drop from ship, on the ship

i noticed this issues occurs around mid july 2022 / around end of Season 13, there is also a lot of AMD users who experience it, just type "apex legends amd crash" on google.

I picked my legend , i saw champ squad and BOM Crashed

i put my dxdiag file but i dont know why but my db file is empty

    CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X

What were you doing before the crash occurred?
Initiating any action in most cases, moving from one area to another, using legend tacticals. I have similar experiece as nanashi83 where they said after relaunch, the game loading all the models and stuff. Also the crash report of Adrenalin Software says that its design time issue or either the PC completely freezes or GPU driver crashes.

  • Thanks for this!

Crashes occurs randomly, i couldn't identify a pattern. Anyway most of the time i crash:
    - during the landing on King's Canyon
    - flying or jumping from high grounds
    - sliding and then ads aiming

During a 6 hours session i crash 3 or 4 times. Sometimes i just need a restart of the game, sometimes my whole pc freeze and then i need to turn it off with the power button.

    CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600

What were you doing before the crash occurred ?

Most of the time, the bug occurs during the game, mainly in ranked. The whole screen freezes and my game crashes. I can play 2 hours straight without any problem and then all of a sudden have this bug.

Then, this error message appears :

DXGI Device Hung Error : r/apexlegends

It can occur 4 to 5 times a day with sessions of 6 hours of play.

Thanks in advance for the help

90% of the time the crash happens when flying down from the dropship. Either the as soon as we drop or about a second before we land. The other 10% of the time the crash happens seemingly randomly. I've had it happen when I'm about to grab a zipline. About to start engaging an enemy. about to loot a box. opening a door. etc etc.

Sometimes I can play for a couple hours without crashing. Sometimes it crashes the first game I play, 4x in a row.

It used to give me the driver hang error but now it just hard locks my PC and requires a restart.

All of this is very recent. been playing apex for 3 years with the same rig no issues. I do believe it started happening for me on the 8/22/22 patch if not even more recent than that.
