DXGI Error Device Hung & Rest

Operating System- Windows 11 Home / Version 21H2
CPU- AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 8-Core Processor (8X 3.8GHz/32MB L3 Cache)
GPU- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti 8GB GDDR6X / Driver Version 511.79
Memory- 16GB [8GB x 2] DDR4-3200MHz RGB
Game Launcher- Steam
Steam launch options (+fps_max 240+gfx_nvnUseLowLatency 1)
All in-game settings are set to Low
Not overclocking any hardware

For about 2-3 months I have been getting both DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG & DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_RESET, but in the last 2 weeks its been unbearable to play. The cause of these errors are unknown and irregular, meaning there isn't a pattern as to when they happen. I have done all the suggested fixes -> (EA Help Article ), plus preforming a complete hardware reset, clean install of GPU & CPU & DirextX 12, and edit the registry. The registry edit reduced the crashes but made my whole pc freeze as often as the crashes did, and the only way to fix the freeze is manually powering off my pc. I reverted the registry ever since with a clean install of Windows 11 Home, and was left these crashes again.

I really enjoy play Apex and don't want to quit, but if I'm going to crash from anywhere once ever 30 minutes to 4 times in 1 game then I guess I will. Is there any way to fix these crashes?

I have started receiving the Device Reset error ever since the new update, I have tried everything i have found on this Forum and many others over the last few days. Sometimes i will get it before the game even fully opens and sometimes during a game. Literally cannot play the game because of this.

  • So today it still happened without hardware accelerated GPU scheduling, but it only happened once till now. I will now test limiting the FPS, to see if it changes anything.

  • When I go into settings to disable this, it says its already disabled. Is it likely to be anything else?

    I don't really know, I didn't play apex for a long time.

All I can say, that I had problems with other games too, hanging and freezing, until I tightened my cpu cooler. IDK if that was the issue, that there was a bad contact or something, but it seems to run fine now. Also in my case to have no problems with OBS and HAGS, you need to turn HAGS off. (Entire screen hangs on quitting game, audio still works, needs hard reboot) You could try reseating your GPU first, if it occurs often. Also clearing DirectX cache seems to help maybe (IDK how to do it, google it). Clean Reinstalling GPU drivers (DDU (display driver uninstaller)) should maybe help.

@Carma1115  I think this issue is going on with all of their games (EA). I am able to play everything and anything else but battlefield 2042 or Dead space. I recently upgraded to a i9-12900k, 32gb of DDR4 ramm, and a Nvidia Geforce RTX 4070 Ti. I cant stay in a game longer than 5 mins. I have also have tried every fix recommended under the sun and no success. Also did you ever find a fix ?

  • Hi Darko

I have this same issue right now and many other people online have been having it too over the past few years. Them not posting on the EA forum doesn't mean it's a hardware issue and not a game issue.

I can run over 20 games at max graphics, 3 games at the same time and yet only Apex is causing this issue. Other than the crashing, it then forces my PC to force restart.

Respawn or EA team needs to investigate this and not suggest ignorant solutions such as "just buy a new GPU" as you are so clearly suggesting here.

A simple google search or twitter search for the error shows that this issue was a larger one a year into the games launch and an actual statement from RESPAWN was made on twitter regarding this.
