Heirloom help

I know this is probably a very common question but I feel like I am past due for an heirloom. I luckily (and thankfully) opened a random pack and got the bloodhound axe right before they changed over to shards. Since then, I've been opening the Apex packs you randomly win when leveling up as well as spending additional money on apex coins to open up extra. With no way to track how many I've actually opened there's obviously no way to know but I swear I am over 500 packs even after the first heirloom I got. Im at the point where I don't want to spend anymore money on coins since I feel like I am not getting what should have already happened.

I guess my questions are this:

1. Did the 500 rule start w shards or could I get an heirloom that way before the shards started?

2. If the 500 rule has been around from the start, after I received my lucky apex pack heirloom, does that 500 count reset or does it continue to rack up for the next?

3. Is there any way I can find out how many apex packs I am away from my first shards pack? If so, I am willing to buy more coins to get there but I feel like whatever I spend right now is pointless since Im pretty sure I'm over 500 packs (after my first heirloom) already. No sense in wasting money on something that's not going to happen either way.

Thanks in advance!

    Hey @mbeskid

The bad luck protection for heirlooms has been in place since Apex Legends launched. If you open up 500 packs without ever randomly pulling heirloom shards you'll get them after you've opened the 500th pack. Prior to the shards being implemented you would just get a random heirloom instead.

That means since you pulled the Bloodhound heirloom a while ago it would have reset the bad luck counter for you. If you open another 500 packs from the point where you got that heirloom and you don't ever get any shards you'll get them after you've opened pack number 500.

Unfortunately we don't have a pack counter that shows how many packs you've got left before you hit 500. That's something people have been asking for since the beginning (and something I would really love to see myself), but I haven't heard if there are plans to add one, I'm afraid.

Hopefully I wrote that up in a way that makes sense, but if anything is still unclear please give me a shout. Thanks!

  • Thanks for the response. My frustration is that I am +95% sure I am already over 500 packs opened AFTER my lucky Bloodhound heirloom pull before shards were a thing. I've been doing little 10 packs, 20 packs and even a 40 pack opening the last couple of weeks thinking the shards would finally  appear but I'm at the point where I feel like I'm beating a dead horse.

    I get what you're saying.

I know it can feel pretty frustrating to open packs and not pull an heirloom. I've still never pulled one myself. Since there isn't a counter in-game it can lead to some confusion on how many packs are left before the bad luck protection kicks in. If you still haven't received any shards I'm afraid you most likely just haven't opened enough packs to trigger it.
