Microphone doesn't work.
Hello, My microphone won't work in Apex Legends. It is recognized in windows and works when I test it. In audio options I can see my mic and the microphone bar doesn't move when I speak on push...
"Not sure if I selected reply to you specifically, but see previous post."
- You didn't, but I do check back on threads I reply to, so its all good.
"Not sure what exactly you wanted for the optional part"
- Just any setting relating to the headset/mic, (such as the ones you've attached), or anything from a program that's associated with the headset/mic, (like how mine uses the Razer Synapse):
For privacy reasons, could you either edit or remove the two screenshots of the Windows settings to not include your email address?
As for what I can tell so far, your settings, (both in-game and on your PC), appears to not be the issue, and if you're using other headsets and those don't work, then its more likely not a settings issue.
In the bottom right side of your screen, do you see a mic icon, (and does it say Apex is using your mic)? If it doesn't say this, then the issue might be that Apex doesn't have permission to use your mic. As you can see with mine, AMD Software꞉ Adrenalin Edition, Discord, and Apex Legends are all currently using my mic:
So, if you don't see Apex show up while the game is open, go into your settings and give it permission to use your mic.
This should be:
Windows Settings -> Privacy & Security -> (Scroll Down) App Permissions -> Microphone
See attached. Those screenshots showed those, but I don't have a bose program that can do that. Only windows related ones.
@Teros1121 Hmm, based off of that screenshot, (which does has the email address showing as well), Apex has access to use your mic.
"I don't have a bose program"
- No worries on that part either. A lot of headsets uses Window's settings anyways. (Like, for my headset, I don't need to use Razer Synapse either).
Overall, this seems to be an issue with Apex and it somehow not supporting any of your headsets. It could be an issue with your PC, but if several headsets work with things like Discord and other devices, then I doubt its related to your PC.
Additional things you could try, (I'm not sure if any of these would resolve the issue):
But before you try any of those fixes, check to see if Apex is set to use your mic. I know it says it had accessed your mic, but that could mean that it tried to use your mic and wasn't able to, or it was somehow using a different mic. (I've had the issue when playing Sea of Thieves, where it somehow wasn't set to use my mic).
This should be under:
System -> Sound -> Volume Mixer -> Click the drop-down on Apex, and make sure its set to use the right devices
Note: If none of these fixes work for you, I'm unfortunately out of possible solutions. Hopefully someone else has one for you to try, (or that it gets resolved by Respawn through a patch).
I'll leave a summary here so it can hopefully be clear what's going on so far:
- Main headset: Bose PC Desktop Controller
- Headset is not managed by another program, (such as Bose), only Window's audio settings
- Windows audio settings appear to be set up correctly, (as in typical audio settings one would expect to be used)
- The in-game audio setting has open mic enabled, but the mic isn't being properly heard, (as in, no one can hear the user)
- The game has permission to use the mic, (and has recently requested access to use said mic)
