[PC] Game software kills internet
I think it was last August when the season 10 update went live. At that time, the game began getting more popular. After the update, the game was unplayable for 2+ months on my end. I would start matchmaking and enter the loading screen. The loading screen would freeze for 3-5 min before crashing. I noticed during the frozen time that my internet connection speed was nearly zero, so bad that discord audio would not transmit. Later on, there was an update that fixed this major freeze/crash/connection speed issue. Since then, whenever I play Apex, my gig-speed, wired connection drops to 10 mbps download, less than .2 mbps upload. At these speeds, I experience constant lag that makes fluid movement and competitive gunfights impossible in this game.
Please keep in mind that these issues have been going on for 6-8 months. I only have issues with Apex Legends. I spoke with EA Help Customer Support and they continued to tell me to try the Basic/Advanced Connection Troubleshooting guides and the issue has to be with my ISP. I have tried every troubleshooting method that I can find to fix this problem:
- Rebooting PC
- Rebooting router
- Trying various server locations
- Port forwarding
- Reducing graphic settings
- Updating graphic and network drivers
- Verifying, repairing, uninstalling/reinstalling game files
- Switching from Origin to Steam then back to Origin
- Uninstalled other games to free up hard drive storage - 1TB SSD, 2TB HDD with plenty of open space
- Ended tasks to free up memory - 64gb RAM is more than anyone needs
- Unplugging any extraneous items that were plugged into my PC - USB port extension, Microsoft wireless receiver, etc.
- Trying IPv4 and IPv6
- Wireless vs wired connection
- Switching DNS
- Flushing DNS
- VPN active
- Contacted ISP
- Received brand new router
- Technician visited to test and validate connection - I CANNOT POSSIBLE HAVE A BETTER INTERNET CONNECTION - THE ISSUE IS NOT DUE TO ISP
Based on the results of this troubleshooting, an IT and Network Engineer with 30+ years of experience and PC gaming knowledge said that the issue has to be coming from the software. If I only have issues with this game, it occurs on wireless and wired network adapters, and my PC specs are more than enough to handle the game, there must be something in the software that is killing the connection speed.
EA Help Customer Service also refused to provide support and troubleshooting for this software problem by denying that there was even a problem since I am the only one having this issue.
I do not feel comfortable troubleshooting within game files. Please help as I am near quitting this game and refusing to purchase another EA product again.
