Re: Audio Issues Apex Legends

After doing some digging, I've discovered a solution that may help people with the same situational problem I was having. This fix is mainly concerned with the game's volume, whereas being below 100% in the in-game audio settings apparently causes unwarranted problems. Before, I had my volume setting at 40% and experienced the audio bug quite frequently along with some distortion issues and extended periods of sound delay. Now that I set the volume to 100% and instead tweaked the volume through the Windows volume control slider, the issue is much less frequent and I can now hear things normally most of the time. There are still times where the sound delays, but with this small configuration it has become a rarity.

Another potential fix, for NVidia Users with ShadowPlay, is to in fact turn off ShadowPlay. I personally haven't tried this myself with having found a solution that works for me. But if the aforementioned fix does not work, then it's worth a shot.

Something this game-breaking should not be included with the in-game sound settings. Perhaps the Apex team and their future updates will add some more polish to the game and make it better. Here's hoping.

Thank you for the details @sutibn. I'd definitely be interested in the sound settings of those still encountering this.

  • I just want to reply to this to say that this bug has been affecting me since launch making the game unplayable. I tried ever fix under the sun however turning of geforce experience fixed it. It was either this or the audio setting in apex called "sound in background" I set to ON. Im not sure which of these fixed it but thank you so much
  • Nevermind. The problem came back and it's more common than ever. This is downright infuriating to deal with and makes the game absolutely unplayable. I cannot hear jack *, and the little sound bits that do squeeze out of this abomination of game audio are either delayed by minutes or smeared into a creepy, distorted mess. I was expecting more out of this balance update, like a bug fix to this oddly specific issue. I'm disappointed. It's annoying when I'm at a huge disadvantage in a game where I previously found a lot of fun to play with friends.

  • Im having the same audio lag but on Xbox, what do my sound settings have to do with Apex being bugged? FIX!

no problem on my pc, but happen on my ps4 every time in skull ... same for all my friends + lag during gu, fight

  • Music and lobby volume at 5 and 6 respectively. SE and Diag at 100. Sound in background and convert incoming chat to text on. Play text chat as speech off.

  • I turned off voice to text and it didn’t lag twice after about 10 games of lag so that may be it

    Hey, Legends.

There are some really great workaround solutions in here. We'll continue to relay community sentiment to the team and examples of where sound isn't quite right in game, but all the potential fixes you listed here to make the game a more enjoyable experience is super helpful and I wanted to take a moment to thank you.

If anyone else is aware of out of the ordinary troubleshooting fixes feel free to share them here so when others are searching audio issues they can find a great list in this thread.

Thank you again and good luck in Kings Canyon!

@EA_Blueberry Does the dev team have any intentions of informing users of a solution to the sound issues?

Its getting difficult to maintain teammates to play with when they get so frustrated by the sound that they won’t play anymore.

The team is aware of directional audio issues and it's currently tracked on the Trello board

Via Microsoft on Window update - KB4515384 (OS Build 18362.356)

"Microsoft has received reports that audio in certain games is quieter or different than expected after installing this update. At the request of some of our audio partners, we implemented a compatibility change that enabled certain games to query support and render multi-channel audio. Due to customer feedback, we are reverting this change as some games and some devices are not rendering multi-channel audio as expected. This may result in games sounding different than customers are used to and may have missing channels."

    Workaround
To mitigate the issue, open settings in the impacted game and disable multi-channel audio, if this option is available. You can also search in the Windows Control Panel for third-party audio device control panels and disable Multi-channel audio or Virtual Surround Sound, if these options are available.

We are working on a resolution and estimate a solution will be available in late September.
