Re: Cpu does not have POPCNT! help

A simple case study for any Techs browsing this, for science -

My Xeon downstairs comfortably runs all these games at 1080p/High/60fps:

The Witcher 3

Dark Souls 3

GTA V

PUBG

Fear the Wolves

Fortnite

H1Z1

DOOM

Killing Floor 2

Destiny 2

Dishonored 1/2

Deus Ex HR/Mankind Divided

Prey

Final Fantasy XIV and XV

Resident Evil 2 Remake

SPECS -

Intel Xeon X5470 quad at 3.8 GHz.

16 GB of fast DDR3 system RAM.

RX 580 graphics card w/ 8 GB VRAM.

(IMPORTANT) That PC destroys base PS4 and Xbox One in both image quality and performance in every game listed.

It also bests the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X in frame-rate and 90% of the time image quality in all the games listed - running at 1080p.

^ And that's because this old beast of a Xeon desktop/server CPU soundly beats the crap out of the 2012 laptop CPUs used as the basis for every console above. Even the tweaked CPUs in the Pro and X.

The Core 2 Quad equivalent to the X5470 is also a high-clockable, high performing old beast.

Moore's Law slowing down, and all that.

This Xeon is still very, very capable (people have paired them with GTX 1070/1080 at 1440p/60fps)

Overall, this PC is absolutely spec'd to run Apex well.

It's running many 2018-19 games very well as we speak.

Respawn, this is something you can patch. On that PC, I receive the warning:

"CPU does not support POPCNT"

This set can totally be emulated/reverse applied and hard-coded in a patch.

To both bypass DRM and correctly load/play the game.

PS: This Intel Xeon X5470 supports these CPU instruction sets:

MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, SSE 4.1, EM64T, EIST, VT-x, VT-d, TXT, XD bit (NX bit), Intel 64, iAMT2

Thank you for investigating (and supporting),

Listen, guys, I posted my specs because a lot of folks have unrealistic expectations for their older Intel CPUs/PCs.

And they're getting caught up in the "support our older CPU!!!" movement, when in reality, their PC was never going to run Apex properly anyway.

To be super clear, if you don't have a gaming-grade quad running at about 3.4 Ghz or better, with at least 8 GB of main RAM, and a graphics card that's at least GTX 1050 Ti or RX 470/570 or better, this graphics card should be 4GB or better model... if you don't meet approx. those specs, it was never going to run properly anyway.

Your older rig must - in a sense - overcompensate for its age.

However, I see plenty of C2Q/Xeon specs listed that should totally run Apex like butter at 1080p, including my own X5470 build (@ 3.8Ghz) above.

Please let those PCs and players into the game with a retro-compatibility patch.

It will have no effect on existing players.

*btw: It's kinda' odd that the 'Technical Issues' section isn't cleanly divided into specific Console areas and PC.

Totally agree with you. Have similar specs and hoping for a fix

As said in the first post :

"My Xeon downstairs comfortably runs all these games at 1080p/High/60fps:

    Prey

    Final Fantasy XIV and XV

    Resident Evil 2 Remake "

And I would add Rainbowsix siege

    Is EA aware that:

    1. free to play needs a big player base to make money, ergo, i2 owner (which btw is usually other 30 yo with jobs and money) being included in that player base should be a priority.

    2. I will never buy a new PC other a free game when I can play RE2 remake in High quality settings with my old but steady machine (and my spec are a bit lower than RevGunthak's).

"support our older CPU!!!" isn't a movement, it's a need for any free to play business plan and I just don't get how such a company as EA can't grasp the concept.

On another note, anti cheat should not be an issue, I play a lot of dead by daylight and the anti cheat tool is the same (pretty sure of it).

Anyways, these issues are a nice reminder of why I hadn't used origin in years.

A good day to you all

x5470 user here too with a gtx970 and 16 gigs of ram
I too never had a problem with running the newest AAA games, (except Mass Effect andromeda, that piece of crap barely run at 20fps in lowest settings).
So there is a solution for Quantum Break to emulate Pop count. But it can't be used for Apex becouse it requires to run additional programs in the  background which communicates with the game, and Easy anti-cheat thinks it is cheating.

So only solution is to bypass the EasyAc which is clearly not an option.
You can find it on Github with the name Popcnt_emulator
If you are a bit confused how to use it go to the "issues" tab it is explained in more detail there.

Well i will wait until next patch hopefully they will fix it if not well i guess i will try fortnite then
    Happy hunting!

  • you know what its not cause of it being an older cpu its cause of them wanting money from the higher end pc users they think that limiting it to a set group of people will make more money for them i am super super annoyed by the amount of effort easy anti cheat has put into simply not being able to run a game with an older cpu. its a feature their working on improving not removing id say to anyone that actually cares about hardware or pcs of the past at all to petition this game entirely and any other game that uses easy anti cheat battleye on forntite doesnt prevent you from running intel SDE the game runs the same as it did without the emulator in my opinion and im sorry but 1gb gpu is more than enough to play this * game lolol the intel Software development emulator is signed for windows and shouldnt be detected as a debugger yet it is. i can show you a benchmark on an intel core 2 duo of it before and after using popcnt instructions and or sse4.2 instruction set its completely usable almost no difference what were dealing with is a game that is too caught up in making people without alot of money feel worse and exclude them from playing a game with their friends thats supposed to be free to play and cross platform lolol forgot they never said open source right !?

Yeah, and rightfully so. If someone is unwilling to spend money to upgrade their retro (at best) systems, they're not likely to spend money on anything else that has to do with them.

Trying to play games on a Goodwill gaming PC, and expecting people to think you have anything but a Goodwill budget, is just silly.

You can daily a 10-15 yrs old pc nowadays, manufacturers recognized this and started implement changes to make sure you have to buy a newer pc, best example is W11 and TPM bsht.
